Mosquitos and bites

Funny as I’ve never ever been bothered by them, having been plenty of places in Europe, and even North Africa, Caribbean, Canaries, that is until I went to Turkey, fuckin things ate me alive, so I may give that a try.

I’ve just put it down to a change in hormones and body chemistry etc with age, I’ve become intolerant/allergic to quite a few things over the last few years, even eggs, which I’ve eaten shit loads of over the decades.

Ditto! The Everglades, all over Europe, the southern sub tropical Japan ... never had any bites until Dalyan!
Now the bastids get me everywhere. Even midges here bite me.

.
My wife was assaulted by the bastards, blood everywhere, and I had to take her to hospital after the pharmasist saw the bites, one huge injection of something in her arse solved the problem but they take ages to clear up.
The locals used to rub the leaves of a certain bush on their skin as a deterrant but iirc eating garlic kept them away aswell.
You know the rules, mate; )

You will inevitably get stung no matter what repellent you try. We bought one of these last year to alleviate the itch. Absolutley brilliant

Rub white vinegar on the bites.
It does work, but then you stink of vinegar.

They ruin beautiful summer evenings here and always take a shine to me. I don't suffer as badly as I first did, but I still get the itching from many of them.

After Bite is my go too.......there are tubes out on the deck, in the garage, in the house, in the car. Get a bite, straight on with a dab of cream.

I hate the bastards with a real passion and just killed one a few minutes ago that was hovering near the table lamp. First of the year.

Deet spray seems to be the only thing that works here, but I hate spraying too much of it on my skin.

I believe it's only the female mosquito that bites.

A mosquito pushes a probe in to the skin to suck the blood out, a black fly actually bites and takes a small chunk out. Thankfully we don't get them so much down here, but a little further north and they are a real pest.

When I was a kid, if we ever got stung by stinging nettles, we just rubbed dock leaves on and it seemed to relive the itching. Not sure whether it would work with mosquito bites.

Having read this thread mate, I’m wondering if it’s these ‘black flies’, thinking back, the mosquitoes you can hear and see, and they seem to piss off as normal when I’ve heard them about, but still woke up in the morning full of bites everywhere, must be like Ninjas these little gits.

Horse flies and deer flies are a whole different gravy.

I put it down to the quality of my English blood, much different to this diluted Canadian stuff.

I was bitten by a horse fly and my arm looked like a big angry red balloon, but thankfully they're not really an issue here. Mosquitoes on the other hand.............bastards!!!!!!

They'll love this 28 degrees, but hopefully the -1 forecast next week will kill them all off.

Eaten alive in the Scottish Highlands in August, the little fuckers love me. Had worse i have been bitten by a rat, and a non venomous snake.

Think I had a false widow bite me 2020. Lept out of a tree as I walked past in the glorious sunshine, and sunk his fangs into the back of my head. WTF was that? Not a wasp or bee sting, it lasted for nearly two weeks, not a pleasant affair. Had problems with that patch of skin for ages. Months, a year plus.

Found one in my bathroom last autumn. Handsome looking beast. Killed it in loo roll... took great delight in the crackling crunching noise it made as I squashed it.

Did we even have these last century?

Try getting a raccoon out of your shed armed with nothing but a hockey stick.
Fucking, "bitten by a fly".
At the cottage?

Pop down, rifle or shotgun, your choice. ☺

Missus down in Hamilton for a lacrosse game, lay out on the deck enjoying the beautiful evening, getting dark, music playing loud and not a fucking miserable mosquito in sight!!! Awesome!!!!

Scarborough shed mate. Sitting on the deck with the tunes a playing and the beers a flowing ; )
The outlaws are up at Bark lake. Jealous : (

Why didn't you just pick it up and take it out, sort of, "here kitty, kitty!" style..........then use the hockey stick? :)

It's a beautiful evening, isn't it? Same tomorrow, but make the most of it, rain and sleet forecast for next week apparently.

I clubbed one to death with an Ice axe, I'm not kidding either. I caught it in my chicken coop after it had eaten a couple of them, I left it's bloody corpse out for several days as a reminder to the others
