Most annoying football cliche?

Just means that it's a Very Important Match for both sides. Usually used when the two are direct rivals for the title.
But also used when both are fighting relegation, and one will leapfrog the other if they win. But it is only three points. I've checked. Our upcoming match with Arsenal at the Etihad will only gain either side a maximum of three points. Things can still happen after that…
One team gains 3 points. The other team loses 3 points.

Nope. The other team is as they were. They neither gain nor lose anything.
Otherwise every single game would be a six-pointer.
Ah yes but, if every game were a six pointer we would have got 196 points in the Centurion season.
Even better the season the dips got within a point - we would have finished with 194 points and the trampy bastard skip rats would’ve got………. 187!

Pundit Y says that Coach X got his tactics ‘spot on’. Pundit Y proceeds not to illustrate what said tactics were. Illustrating Pundit Y to be a know-nothing air-bag.

Likewise, Sant Josep ‘overthinking’ it.
