Most Memorable Boxing Day City Match

Us older Blues will remember Boxing Day 1963 beating Scunthorpe 8-1.
In fact the full Xmas period was full of goals that season.

Total madness that day.
Always remember E.T. running on the pitch and give the ref the 'finger'
Great day out. Sure it was Batman & Robin on the pitch at half time with coppers chasing them. I seem to remember ET was trying to climb the fence, but coppers stopped him & ET then gave the finger to the coppers not the ref. ET was stood about 10yards from me. I could well be wrong, but pretty sure that’s what happened

The obvious ones for us older fans have already been mentioned. I'll go for one that wasn't memorable for the football, just for the sheer ballache of leaving home at 5-30am to drive from the Fylde Coast to Southampton for a noon KO and watch us take the lead and then lose 2-1.

Some rich twats went by plane IIRC. ;-)

Ha!
I went on the plane. £90 I think it was....

I wasn't at the game but if it's any consolation I'm told by lads that went it was the flight from hell
There were 2 planes. £90 i think it was.
I was on the first to leave. Up in the air we went..... Was told there would be in flight snacks.... Never happened due to turbulence. After 25 mins of going upwards we were heading downwards and seat belt signs were on. Cloudy / foggy as fuck the whole way.
Told we were due to land (at Eastleigh) and soon from out of the window the fog had slightly cleared and we could see roof tops on houses and the runway..... Next thing is the plane shoots upwards and back into the sky..... Message from the captain saying it was nothing to worry about, just too early to land and the airport wasnt ready yet...... We flew over the English channel which we could see as the fog / clouds were not over the sea..... We did a huge circle over the channel and about 25 mins later we landed.
The 2nd plane had landed before us and as we piled on to coaches to The Dell the lads from the other plane were asking us if we were scared at what happened...
Asked them to explain - as far as we were concerned nothing happened.
Transpired that those on the 2nd plane were told that the 1st plane had "overshot the runway and had to make an emergency diversion back into the air".
Apparently both planes were the largest planes that could land at Eastleigh so timing needed to be accurate.
Those on the 2nd plane couldnt believe how chilled out we were about the "incident" not realising we were oblivious to what was going on!
On the way back, a smooth flight meant we could have our tea or Coffee and imperial mints inflight snack that we couldn't have on the inbound flight.

Colin Bell's game v Newcastle is the stand-out winner. But speaking of taking planes to see a match I recall Boxing Day home to Aston Villa in 2001 (?). Christmas night stuck on the runway by heavy snow and not knowing if we'd take off. The flight was via Heathrow and they announced the plane was returning to the gate. But the direct flight to Manc was at the next gate and I blagged my way onto it. Landed a couple of hours before kick off and saw MV Foe give City the lead, then Villa scored. Benarbia came on with 20 minutes to go, made a goal for 2-1 then scored the third with a diving header before jumping into the crowd!

Like me saying Stoke 87, you’re a year out. Was 98 that one. Felt like the first time in years that the players & fans connected again. Loved that game
Sorry meant 98 99 promotion season, I always think of that game as the day the tide finally turned and we started our long road back to the top.
