Most momentous International event in your lifetime?

Hard to decide between the time Newcastle handed Alan Pardew an eight year contract and City signing Wilfried Bony.

Agree with No.1
I was behind the goal for the penalty shootout with Romania.
There were some scenes there that day after O’Learys scored.

The Pope’s visit was huge but can’t help feel that in hindsight the country was under mass hypnosis.
Never happened second time around.
I get what you mean about the Pope's visit. I was young and didn't want to watch it on TV and was nearly bate for it.

I got first hand experience of the hysteria of Ballinspittle

I would say The fall of the Berlin Wall and the attack on the World Trade Centre because they both changed the world for ever.
Close up behind was the launch of Sputnik 1 for the same reason.

Ah Ballinspittle.
I remember it well. Even back then I thought of it as a reinforcement of backward Ireland on the international (British) news channels.

I’d say the local hostelries did well out of it.

Probably. It wa a crazy time. But also a great time if you were one of the lucky ones....which we were. At that time there was the terrible famines and Chernobyl a year later. But we were lucky and optimistic and fun and charitible and essentially good people (if a little deluded but what harm).

Covid shut the world down, no air travel, millions of deaths, lockdowns....Nobody allowed in or out of the country I live in.

Has to be that shirley.

Ohh shit, dumbass me, forgot it was all a hoax.

The Chinese bat eating championship in Wuhan 2020.
I was reading up about SARS because I went to China in 2003 and there was a SARS pandemic then.
That pandemic started in Guangzhou in 2002 and ended in 2004. About 8.500 people were infected and about 900 died. That pandemic affected people in Hong Kong and 32 countries including Vietnam, Singapore andh Canada.
That incident should have been a warning.
