I agree about Distin. Often a rock surrounded by pebbles and gravel.Distin for me. Better than he was appreciated on some dreadful teams. Very solid post-City career.
Also Clichy as several have said. Clichy had some very good years but never in succession. Hard to believe he actually played for Pep as it is starting to seem so long ago that some of those players were here.
I think Clichy, Sagna and Kolarov (at CB) started Pep's first game. Amazing.
Very good player but far too quite and passive personality for a striker in those days.He was very skilful and held the ball up well, but he lacked sufficient physical presence and didn’t score nearly enough goals. Trevor Francis has spoken well of him as a player.
The racial abuse suffered by Alex and the black players of that era was a disgrace.Alex Wiliams deserves a mention. Followed on from a club legend in Joe Corrigan and must have received humungous amounts of abuse from certain sections of fans in those days. Had a pretty decent couple of years for us.
Not sure you would class him as under-rated when his nickname was 'Superman'.Stephen Ireland
39 goals in 157 competitive games for City............not quite Adrian Heath stats, but...He was very skilful and held the ball up well, but he lacked sufficient physical presence and didn’t score nearly enough goals. Trevor Francis has spoken well of him as a player.
