MOTD

Obviously his name doesn't fit when discussing goals from the halfway line.

Oh, and I'm certainly not a Brand fan before anyone starts on that one, it's just that MOTD needs something new to liven it up.

Honestly i think it's got so bad they need to have a complete re-think and start again. The whole show needs scrapping imho. The new show needs a charter that says:

1. Must not be called Match of the Day
2. All previous presenters, in fact anyone who has ever been on the old show is barred
3. Ex footballers with an IQ of 80 or less need not apply (Alan, in case you missed 2 above)
4. All sycophantic, cringeworthy praising of inept British managers is barred
5. Ditto inept British players

And finally, the dufficult one,

6. Presenters must demonstrate an actual knowledge and understanding of football and football rules.

Yet despite it's flaws, we all tune in each and every Saturday. :-)

For 40+ years i have.

It's getting to the point where i won't watch now though, it's that bad. If I do tune in, it's idle curiousity at what total misrepresentation they might have come up with this week. I long since gave up any hope of any fair and accurate reporting. It really is a lost cause. They'd be better off having Harry Hill as host.

Fucking hell; that doesn't leave much of a choice. Gok Wan and Alan Titchmarsh?

I thought 80 was a fair balance. I could have said 60 but then Ruud Gullit could have crept through. An IQ of 80 just means a brain capable of abstract thought, so that they aren't left dribbling if someone says "imagine a football".

The only football highlights on terrestrial television, can't quite put my finger on why...
You can't put your finger on why it's the only football highlights on terrestrial television?

That as well. I think Dave would put on a better show, that's the TV channel as well as my mate.

I thought Leonardo was a breath of fresh air in the discussion on Ya Ya. He hasn't been learning the Telegraph off by heart, like Shearer, so we actually got a top class professional view introducing such unheard of concepts such as "pace", "control" which are way beyond our Geordie friend. But wait till Shearer can learn them for next time....

Is there no mid-week MOTD highlights prog showing last nights rag annihilation?

Linekar tweeted last night that their contract states there needed to be a minimum of 6 games for a midweek show.

Ah OK thanks for that (and PB too).

Which is bullshit (Not aimed at you, aimed at BBC)

They've shown special MOTD's in the past including Manchester derby matches, i.e. when we won the league and beat them 1-0 at home (Monday night after Sky had broadcasted the full match.)

It's all to do with money.

-- Wed Mar 26, 2014 8:51 pm --
