Mr Bates vs the Post Office

Of course it’s political
Political yes, Party political no, fingers to be pointed at all parties. Prosecutions started in 2000 and the shit has continued from then in that time we have had Labour, Coalition and Tory govs. NB Paula Vennells didn't become CEO till 2012

I bet she isn’t prosecuted, but hope she is, and all the other cunts. Interesting that the itv drama didn’t mention Adam crozier, a former post office ceo after Vennells, who interestingly later became itv ceo; just a coincidence I am sure
If she’s seen again in public, I’m sure she will public justice. No doubt the tax payer will have to fund protection for her and her family for life

It's even worse than that. Only 3 cases have been identified as being brought by the CPS during Starmer's tenure as DPP. It's laughable, but entirely predictable, that Farage and the usual outlets are trying to shovel some of the blame his way when it's abundantly clear who the real culprits are.

Thanks - hadn't seen an assessment of how many were in Starmer's time. It's pretty desperate smearing.

Would imagine the furore generated will have commissioning editors seeking out other such catastrophes to be dramatised for future Christmas viewing. Could become an annual tradition that is awkward for successive governments.
I think the reason this has been able to achieve the impact it has is because the facts were already very clearly established.

It had been through the Courts, so the production didn't have to pussyfoot around allegations and facts or worry about prejudicing future court cases and so had a free run at it.

It just needed people to see that the sub-postmasters were simply normal people being badly stitched up and that it was quite easy to understand what had happened.

That is also why it is such an indictment of the Police and Government as both have failed to do anything without the exposure generated by this rather brilliant drama.

I watched the Panorama documentary on this last night - this was aired 2 years ago, so much of this has been out there for years, it’s criminal that it took a dramatised version for this appallingly negligent government to do something. What changed Mr Cameron, Mrs May, Mr Johnson, Mr Sunak (I’ll let Mrs Truss off as she was only PM for half an hour)? This was something that should have been dealt with years ago, you utter cunts
Says it all, Coronation Street, Eastenders culture, people see Panorama and give it a wide berth.

The usual pricks like 30p Lee were trying to somehow pin this on Ed Davey.

While I am not saying he is blameless I did see a great comment saying something along the lines

"imagine trying to explain to someone from another country that the leader of the UK's 4th largest party was responsible and should resign"

I thought the point was that the Post Office had the power to bring their own prosecutions without involving the normal DPP process?
