I heard an interview on the radio with Lee Castleton last night - he hasn't even bothered submitting his claims the 1/6th figure is he claimed being applied across the board and those making the decisions are implicated in the scandal anyway and he said - rightly in my view - this needs to be put into independent hands to make the decisions on payments

Absolutely, they are just dragging it out again, now it’s not all over the media they will hope public interest disappears and just carry on as before.

I would except Sir Wynn to make such recommendations now that he has decided to include a phase in the inquiry that looks specifically at the three compensation schemes. Unfortunately that phase isn't likely to start until September.

Mainly preparing for the witnesses but also because POL are dragging there feet with disclosure, the chair has all but told them he believes they are looking to obstruct the inquiry. The next phase is due to start 4th April and POL have been told this gives them ample time to comply with all disclosure requests.

Ta for the reply. I would assume the Chair doesn't have the authority to threaten the PO with a punishment. Not financial, I mean similar to contempt of court.

He can make recommendations to the CPS who would take such recommendations seriously. Justice Fraser did exactly that in the Hillsborough inquiry and that lead to criminal trials. He can also make recommendations to Government under the enquiries act 2005, he has already done this regarding compensation which lead to interim payments being made to sub postmasters.

I would imagine to process all the witness statements, seek further info from them as necessary and to write an output report

Not sure why it needs an inquiry to sort this out. It’s taken years and seemingly likely to take more years. People have died, and “justice” moves at a limping snails pace

I agree that justice limps along at a snails pace but the inquiry is necessary to establish the details as to who knew what and when. From there I would expect prosecutions will follow.

How else do we expose the truth other than an enquiry? I strongly believe it will lead to criminal charges and full and fair compensation.
As someone who has followed the story since 2003 I am delighted with the exposure and scrutiny the drama has brought.
Your right though news stories only have a limited shelf life before the public get bored and switch off.

How it was allowed that the post office were decision makers in the compensation scheme is beyond me.
It would be akin to allowing Trump to decide how much compensation he should pay Stormy Daniels!

The Post Office began in 1660 and worked fine - privatised in 2015 - ruined as a service by 2023 - wonder what caused that then?

Blair brought the Horizon system in despite Brown’s concern it was poor. He wanted to encourage Japanese investment here.

Labour are to blame for this scandal.
