The majority of the great British public are trying to get through the everyday, keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Do you expect normal, everyday people to keep abreast of every scandal? What utter snobbery.

I think he makes a valid point and I don’t read any snobbery in it. The fact is that it did take a tv drama to cause this issue to be treated properly. The panorama documentary was 2 years ago, the convictions being quashed by the court of appeal was several years ago, lots of this had been in the public domain for donkeys years, but it was last weeks itv drama that has had by far the overwhelming effect

What would you suggest? Everyone should watch News at 10? Everyone should put an hour aside to watch Question Time every Thursday? Everyone should subscribe to Private Eye? And then when people see a report on a scandal, keep following the story so that they are abreast of what's going on? And then what about tomorrow when there's another scandal? Next week when there's another?

The truth is that as you've said, your friend was affected by this so it's more personal to you. This is why you didn't need the ITV drama to refresh your memory.

Most people don't employ politics as a hobby in this country or any other, you're right though most people are too busy going through their own days and haven't got the time to fight causes for everyone else or even register the problems everyone else has.

The nuances of politics today are slanted by ideologues and world narratives.
