martin samuels never has to come on here to make an apology, perhaps that`s because he has researchers who like him are competent. and he doesn`t try to defend incompetent colleagues. it`s a shame the newspaper industry is full of sensationalist top skimmers.

i`ve read the evening news longer than stuart brennan been a reporter and notice the change over the years from reporting fact to stating opinion dressed up as facts with no substance.

what a shame for a once great read. perhaps the reducing readership has caused panic and a change to sensationalism in an attempt try to win back readers but has led to lack of quality to prevail.

I agree that Martin is an excellent writer. Wait until he writes his next piece about City that is even marginally critical, and the loons on here will be slagging him again! I think it might come as news to him that he has "researchers".

By the way any instances of us "stating opinion dressed up as facts with no substance"?

well you could always get someone from trinity mirror newspapers to make nice posts about you in here, oh they already have?

If Martin Samuels was to write something critical about City, it would likely to be because we had done something to be criticised for, Stuart. Based on facts, not opinion.

It's called balance and objectivity, something Mr Samuels has in spades.

So, are you implying I lack balance and objectivity when I write about City? Or that I am critical of the club without foundation? I'd be intrigued to see what you base that argument on.
United fans on Twitter and elsewhere are convinced I am a Blue. I wonder how that happened?

Spot on. As I informed Martin in person on Sunday, he's one of the few journalists who seem to have a grasp of FFP.

There's a few decent football columnists in The Times, Bill Edgar and Gabriel Marcotti. The MEN seems downright amateurish in comparison. I remember an inappropriate, derogatory article on City a few years ago and it was blamed on some work experience lad who was holding the fort over Easter.

Just a pretty poor publication really.

I was commenting purely on Martin Samuels.

I don't know how you could infer I was being critical of your work from my post, Stuart?

I have always had a soft spot for the MEN as I did my work experience there 20-odd years ago. However, it's not the publication it once was. But that isn't criticising you, personally, or your work specifically, just an observation of the product as a whole.

Care to elaborate? I have been at the MEN for 16 years and we have never had a "work experience lad holding the fort at Easter". The whole sports desk is used to having to work at Easter, as it is a very busy time for sport.
This kind of drivel is what I meant when I talked about challenging "lies and inaccuracies".

I seem to remember calling the MUEN over their report that the rags had poached our date for an open top bus tour the other year. When I pointed out that I knew for a fact it was incorrcet as City wouldn;t even be in Manchester on that day I was told categorically that my facts were incorrect and the MUEN story was correct. Oh how I laughed when a few days later there was a small article saying how City had stayed over. Funny how they didn't print an apology. It isn't the paper it used to be mainly due to the fact that news is consumed differently these days hence sales are down, free copies given away etc.

Does it still have Mr Manchester's diary and report on where Nigel Pavarro was last seen pissed up ?

Does Leslie Holt from Prestwich still send letters to the Football Pink?

The irony of an MEN reporter complaining about lies and inaccuracies.

Has that private jet from Portugal landed yet, Stuart?

Without being 100% sure, I think the article related to the anniversary party (City's lack of trophies) that was due to be held at Walkabout, with David May.

When someone on here flagged it up, the response was that there was a junior member of staff who put the article online unsupervised. He was unsupervised as it was a bank holiday and there was a shortage of staff.
