MUEN again and again

I seem to remember calling the MUEN over their report that the rags had poached our date for an open top bus tour the other year. When I pointed out that I knew for a fact it was incorrcet as City wouldn;t even be in Manchester on that day I was told categorically that my facts were incorrect and the MUEN story was correct. Oh how I laughed when a few days later there was a small article saying how City had stayed over. Funny how they didn't print an apology. It isn't the paper it used to be mainly due to the fact that news is consumed differently these days hence sales are down, free copies given away etc.

Again, I am baffled by this.
Here is our article from April 23,weeks before the 2011 cup final, in which it states the City parade would be held after the end of the Premier League season ie May 22 - when it actually did take place.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/35-years-coming-manchester-city-859143" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ity-859143</a>

Here is our May 14 article on United's plans for a parade on May 30, the week after City's.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-parade-set-for-may-30-860703" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... -30-860703</a>

So when you say you "seem" to remember, maybe it was more seeming than actually remembering?

I remember an inappropriate, derogatory article on City a few years ago and it was blamed on some work experience lad who was holding the fort over Easter.

Care to elaborate? I have been at the MEN for 16 years and we have never had a "work experience lad holding the fort at Easter". The whole sports desk is used to having to work at Easter, as it is a very busy time for sport.
This kind of drivel is what I meant when I talked about challenging "lies and inaccuracies".

I know nothing about what Blue Punter is eluding to but surely you can see why people on this forum think that the MEN likes having a dig
at City in a way that it wouldn't do with United? The article by David Lynch was ill conceived. Instead of pulling it though the MEN ran it on the
back page along with your rebuttal thus making it an even bigger story. Senior management even supported his views. The positive that
was City winning the small visitor award was used by the MEN to belittle us. I'm sorry Stuart you may play the "good cop" but you are still
a "cop" at the end of the day and are bound to defend your employer's position. If a self confessed Tory wrote a political piece in the
Daily Telegraph stating the Socialist position it wouldn't have the same credibility as a Socialist writing the same piece in The Independent
would it?

Without being 100% sure, I think the article related to the anniversary party (City's lack of trophies) that was due to be held at Walkabout, with David May.

When someone on here flagged it up, the response was that there was a junior member of staff who put the article online unsupervised. He was unsupervised as it was a bank holiday and there was a shortage of staff.

Anyone who starts a counter argument with the line "Without being 100% sure" Well, you might as well talk about Elvis on the moon. And David May having a piss up in a pub in town, it's hardly the scandal of the century. Too many soft arses about these days.

When you say you are not 100% sure, do you think it might be nearer 0%?

Here is the article to which you refer, written in Feb 2011 - not many bank holidays in February.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ex-united-star-david-may-organises-party-853168" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... rty-853168</a>

And it was written by Mike Keegan, a staff reporter.
So, when you say it was a work experience lad writing a wrong story at Easter, what you actually meant was that it was an experienced staff reporter writing a correct story in February.
Like I said, lies and inaccuracies

Has that private jet from Portugal landed yet, Stuart?

That private jet was correct, the only mistake was that I was led to believe it had taken off, when in fact it was still on the tarmac in Porto - I corrected that as soon as I was told that a plane did not need to be in the air to be given a landing slot.
City had the jet on stand-by in case they concluded the Fernando deal. How else would they have got him back for the medical in time to meet transfer deadline.
My story was corroborated by plane-spotter types on Twitter, who said that the Ringway schedule had clearance for a private jet from Porto to land at 3.23pm.
It was later pulled when the flight was cancelled, because no deal was done.<br /><br />-- Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:29 pm --<br /><br />

Not going back over that, as my views were made plain at the time, and have also been made privately to the editor and the writer.
Just to be pernickety, the article was not run on the back page, but an inside one.

I would just like to add something a bit constructive to this thread and state that in my opinion the MUEN is pure wank.

Nice attempt to crowbar yet ANOTHER link for your shoddy journal in. You really don't miss a trick do you?

I'll tell you what I'll do, Stuart. I'm off work next week for a few weeks after an operation. Once Cheltenham is out of the way, I'll find the story and post it up in this thread.

If I don't find it, I'll retract my comment.

SSSSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!

We don't want an outbreak of balance and rationality!

But you did neglect to mention the article we ran last week which had a photo of 22 United players returning to the airport from Olympiacos, entitled "22 pictures of United players looking glum on return to Manchester" <a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/22-pictures-manchester-united-looking-6750197" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ng-6750197</a>

Imagine if we had run that on City? All hell would have been let loose.
