Stood in the chippy last night and one person comes in an orders a chip barm then five minutes later someones else orders a chip muffin my head was spinning i had to leave its all getting a little confusing now

you'll find if you go in a chippy and the menu says muffin the barmy lot will say muffin as they have no conviction in their belief in the word where a muffin person will go in a chippy that the menu says barm and still say muffin as they know the one true word.

on that note though I call a chip butty a chip muffin but a bacon sarnie a bacon barm as breakfast muffins are too small for a bacon sarnie with hp

Another muffinite admitting he calls it a barm! They're all at it.

I never profess to be a muffinite solely only when it comes to chippy food. I understand that there are many breads of this world but all have there place and in a chippy barms don't they belong to corned beef in a packed lunch and bacon in the morning

Just had a chip BUTTY for dinner
This is correct. You have bread and a filling and it's a butty. You can have bacon on its own, ham/salad on is own, jam on its own, or a barmcake on its own but put any filling together with the bread (be it sliced bread or a barmcake) and it becomes a butty.

If you take butties to work in a box, that box is called a butty box.

It's also breakfast-dinner-tea.

fully agreed. when you go to the butty shop, you ask for *insert filling of choice* on a white barm please. then, and only then, you will own a butty. at no point during this transaction does a muffin ever get involved.

No a butty is bread, normal sliced bread. A barm is a barm and it's round. There's a difference. You can put still put a barm in a butty box all the same.
