Music Poll - Favourite Lead Guitarist see OP Closes Midnight today

Not playing but…..
A few I love listening to….

Rory - Live. Nuff said.
Hendrix - Most innovative.
Carlos - Feel. Rhythm.
Gilmore - for reasons already offered on here.
SRV - Had it all tbh.
Zappa - composition.
Steve Vai - passed Zappa interview.
Dickie Betts - someone mentioned Allman Bros.
Gary Moore - for mix of tech ability and passion/feel.
Steve Howe or Steve Hackett ….. The very best of prog.

There are loads of others that can be argued better I’m sure but it’s all subjective.
These guys at one stage or another have just had me transfixed.
My #1 has still not been mentioned by anybody yet, but hopefully you’ll enjoy my selection next week in the album thread ... or not.

(Protein Junkie - don’t give anything away!)

You know me on scoring or rating music or musicians.
I think it’s all about mood anyway.
I could change from week to week.

Jeff Beck *** there’s another one I should list. I have a dvd of him in Ronnie Scott’s which is out of this world.

High praise. Better than Rory?
In my opinion yes. His phrasing and smoothness (for want of a better word) was as good as Clapton but Gary could play faster than Eric and with such feeling (like Peter Green). In fact Gary had peter Greens (out of phase) Les Paul guitar, and could play it just like Peter. I posted the you tube of Blues For Greeny concert below. It's awesome.

I liked Rory but he was a raw talent. Unpolished :)
There are so many, SRV, Jimi. It's all about your favourite I guess.

I think my favourite solo however belongs to Clapton, at the end of the Cream song White Room. It goes on for a while and it's like a song itself. Played with such virtuosity, when he played a Gibson 335...well done Eric. I think Eric became so obsessed with NOT being a guitar God though, he changed the way he did things completely after Cream.

Interesting that no one has mentioned Keith Richards yet.
I was listening to “Miss You” earlier, and thought about this thread and how brilliantly rubbish Richards and Wood are. They really aren’t very good….and barely play any more, but by god what they do play is perfect for their sound (well, back then anyway)

I do see the smiley, so my response is; Exactly. But…. No… unpolished is not correct.
Raw is exactly how he liked it. Raw is exactly how those attending his live performances liked it. The guy was as technically proficient as anyone yet mentioned but chose to keep it true to what he believed in.
I appreciate you are a guitarist, a lot better than me for sure, but don’t listen to the harmonics on Walk on Hot Coals on the ‘74 Irish tour and tell me the guy wasn’t technically proficient.
He also always paid tribute and acknowledged those past masters that he revered when playing live and didn’t pass stuff off as his own.

At what was the tail end of his zenith I was revering Paige, Howe, Blackmore, Hendrix, Hackett and the likes and only got to see Rory live in Dublin once in the 80’s.

That was a transforming moment though.

I would have loved to have seen him, McAvoy, Martin and De’Ath, live as that is my ultimate lineup.

It’s all subjective and yes I have bitten.
Rant over.

;-). Catch ye in the morning.

It's only my opinion !!

You Rory fans are passionate, wont have a slightly negative word said about him...

Like Jack Grealish fans :-)
