Slippery, dishonest **** would have got away with it if it weren't for those pesky not-for-profit types.

When I was in teaching overtime became payable for staff who ran extra classes after school.
As senior management I was expected to do it but got no extra money.
I’d like to see this concept brought in for cabinet ministers.
You can be a cabinet minister but you cannot use any tax avoidance strategies that anyone on average wage would not use for as long as you are making laws. . Ie. ISAs ok, trust funds - fuck off businesses you created based in Gibraltar under daddy’s name - fuck off.
And also their personal annual tax returns should be published for as long as they are in government.

So it was tax avoidance. Badly done by the seems of it and it looks like he’s decided to give up on his hamfisted attempts and just pay the tax. What a clown.

It's always the case that when an MP is accused of fiddling expenses, tax evasion, covid parties or any other misdemeanour, their excuse is always "It was an genuine error".
I hate it when a politician is clearly lying, but I hate it even more when they take me for a gullible idiot.

If HMRC were after him it was tax evasion, which is illegal.

Avoidance isn’t.

No, it was tax evasion that became tax avoidance when he knew he couldn't get away with it.

My wife is a senior biomedical scientist, during the pandemic she worked nearly 16/18 hours a day for nearly 6 months, to test samples and put in new working practices for rapid covid testing.

She was hardly home and the pressure it put on us as a family was huge. I was also working full time (at home) during the pandemic and had to run the house as well as look after and home school the kids. This not a complaint.....we muddled through like everyone else did at the time.

The complaint is; that she got paid overtime for working these stupid long days and putting safe working practices in place, to protect colleagues and ultimately speed up testing. Fair enough you say.......yes. But this overtime took us over a certain threshold for family tax credit......and low and behold she was hit with a tax bill of nearly £2.5k.

All for doing her job.

And cunts like Zahawi and his rich cronies can get away with this shit, time after time.

Should be locked up. Cunts the lot of em.

From that article that was linked he has attempted avoidance which was badly done/created too many questions so he settled.

However both fair comments. It’s fair to say it’s either avoidance or evasion… if he attempted avoidance but fell in evasion because he’s incompetent… it’s still evasion irrespective of what he was attempting. He’s a very dislikable politician.
