Names we miss from the old place.

Road names -

I lived on Thornton Road, next up Horton Road (aunties and uncles), Yew Tree Road for shops and Post Office.

Dalton Ave came off Thornton Rd and via a short 'entry' put you onto Maine Road.

It seemed like a massive place all round as a kid.

Playing footie on the 'croft' all night. Reserve games were great as we played under floodlights, sweeeeeet.

My dad was giving my mam a driving lesson on the croft and she drove into one of the big blue doors and dented it. The dent was there for years after.

Ford Cortina for anyone who was wondering

Cant think of any names that havent been mentioned but the 3 or 4 utd scarfs hanging from the rafters in the Kippax allways made me feel kinda proud........better than any home fans only warning sign.

Mary's Pop In sweet shop opposite Wilbraham School.

Rainbow Crystals anyone?

As an eight year old kid with my dad and uncle, Saturday dinnertime being marched up Yew Tree Rd superspeed in my green parka and Lord Anthony flares, pissed wet through with a bag of steaming chips. Well before the junction with Platt Lane hearing the unbelievable atmosphere and singing in the ground building up, over Platt Lane a quick dodge past a few piles of dog shite in the alleys next to the ground and then I was there. Once we got through the turnstiles my dad and uncle would meet their mates at the massive bar outside the Kippax. They would have a couple of pints of bitter and I'd be handed a bag of XL crisps and a tin of shandy. Up the stairs and after being squeezed through the crowd I'd be plonked along with hundreds of other snot nosed little herberts in parkas on the white wall on the front of The Kippax. Just before kick off my dad would fuck off up in The Kippax with his mates with the promise of returning after the final whistle. It's hard to describe the excitement, noise and nervouseness of watching City run out onto the pitch in the mid 70's, but I do know that from that point on City and Maine Road have provided me with the sort of memories throughout my teens, twentys and thirties, That irrespective of trophies and on pitch success those prawn munching rag twats could never have done. The new stadium is great and hopefully it'll provide the same experiences for my lad in the future that I have enjoyed...but it's not the ground...it's the club... C'MON CITY!!!
p.s Moss Side is a million times better than Beswick !

As a kid City were (like our house) in Rusholme.

Then they were referred to as being in Moss Side.

I dont lose sleep over it but its always Rusholme for me.

This thread wouldn't be complete about names we miss if it didn't include Marc-Vivien Foé.

Tributes laid at the main gate at Maine Road.

Just read all 9 pages of this thread, wondering how I could possibly add to what had gone before (I'm not very good at remembering specifics sometimes), but I'm just gonna echo this I think!

God, I still really miss the old place - I grew up there & it has given me both some of my happiest & also my most painful memories over the years!

But as the above poster says, lets remember the players that have worn the blue shirt with pride over the years, especially those who are sadly no longer with us & those taken too soon, such as Marc Vivien Foe, & also spare a thought for David Rocastle, who was such a sublime player too. Thanks for the memories guys! RIP!

Not forgetting Tommy Caton.
