The price is putting me off

I understand as they are expensive, but if you hire one with friends or family you can maybe share the cost.

Did it on the Thames a few years ago, great fun.

In a narrow boat?
I did the Thames in October with three mates in a bloody great gin palace.
Great fun, especially wearing full dinner suits at night for dinner on deck.

Just had two replace two old oars.

Did they leave of their own accord or did you have to evict them?

They have a couple you can rent out for the day at Portland Basin (Wharf Street Dukinfield). I rented a small one out for a kids Birthday picnic. The have bigger holiday ones i believe http://www.portlandbasinmarina.co.uk/day-boat-hire/

A group of us hire one of these about 4or5 times a year for a piss up, great day out.

I've been through Oxford in a narrowboat on the Thames during a full scale regatta. It certainly challenge my boatmanship!

Very long time ago I did quite a few canals. Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is a good one to start with - only six locks and quite a lot of natural interest. Life slows down to walking pace. To start with I’d avoid the Stratford on Avon canal - unless they have improved the locks on the northern section! To let you know how long ago that was I watched the City v Spurs cup final replay on a small black and white tv on the boat.
