With his signing it means we are not pursuing David Alaba anymore. Alaba could had been our first choice at LB and could had covered for Laporte at LCB. Ake is a bit meh signing like Scott Sinclair and Fabian Delph. Hope i am proven wrong and he prove value for money.

Some of our big-money signings we had high hopes for:

- Stones
- Bony
- Mangala

Some of the signings who were pretty much nobodies at the time we got them:

- Hart
- Kompany
- Zabaleta

Some of the signings who were called 'overpayments' at the time:

- Sterling
- De Bruyne
- Silva

You can't predict if a signing will work out with this club anymore. There's just no way.

Exactly. Cannavaro and Baresi are two of the best defenders to have played the game (the former is the last defender to have won the Ballon d’Or after leading his country to the World Cup) and were both 5’9. Some on here have a bizarre height fetish of sorts and deem any centre back under 6’2/6’3 to be useless.

Funnily enough it was our very own manager who won the CL with a CB who measured in at 5’8.

Don’t think there’s going to be any issues with Ake’s height.

Good point. I have to admit I have a bit of a height fetish when it comes to central defenders. I’ve always thought a CB has to be atleast 185 cm to be able to deal with aerial threats but obviously that’s not the case. John Stones is 188 and he’s not especially good in the air.

I just think the combination of talent (obviously) and height could be key to scoring THAT goal. Van Dijk with his 190+ cm makes it look so effortless when scoring. Not many players can handle him in the air and I would be worried about his capacity if we faced a Liverpool corner in a Champions League final.
I doubt Aké at 180 would be able to stop him.

Other than that, Aké is a real fighter, exacty what we need.

Think for those suggesting a 'backup CB', even if you do bring in Koulibaly then looking at next years schedule, there is literally no break so you have 3 quality CB's getting plently of games in a rotation, with Garcia as a 4th and Fernandinho in an emergency

Do think you need a bit of an arial presence though, especially on set pieces as you are not a big side. Still think that LB is a real weak spot for you too and needs fixing. Heard people saying Ake can play there too but ive not seen it.

He is not a LB,he will have enough learning to do in his own position,we need a proper one

He has a fairly decent amount of experience at LB. As well as at DM. It's not like these are some outlandish suggestions. He has pace, which makes him a better candidate to play at FB than many other CB's....

Didn't sell him, just have a feeling Pep will switch up a bit, especially in my example as I think Cancelo would be a better wing back.
Cancelo can’t even crack a regular starting spot when walker is available but you think he is better wing back than walker.
Ok
