Nathan Ake

I hope they drop the drink breaks and revert back to just 3 subs. That appears to be the opinion of most pundits too.
I'd happily see the drinks break go, but not fussed either way about three or five subs, although the latter would definitely give us an advantage.

Still think the plan is:

LCB: Laporte & Ake
RCB: Koulibaly & Garcia (or perhaps Tosin if Garcia goes?)

With THB hopefully getting time in cups and the odd run out.

Ake will compete for time at LB as well. All 4 will get plenty of minutes. We don't have backups in the squad, we rotate regularly and the season will be condensed as well which will provide more opportunity.
What is with this Tosin nosence.

He is playing in a poor team in the Championship, he is not going to be anywhere near our squad next season, not good enough and unfortunately never will be.

Yeah I’ve seen the links but I just can’t imagine throwing in Alaba, Telles, Tagliafico or Chilwell in this mix now. Defense would be too crowded.

Imagine Koulibaly and Laporte injury free for a whole season. No Aké in central defense more than a few games. Then imagine Mendy actually finding form plus adding a Chilwell to it. Chilwell and Mendy would compete until they both break, and then Aké would get the chance.

I can’t see this. Aké would never get game time if we signed another LB. I’m sure the plan is for Aké to cover both LB and leftsided central position.

Solution: Sell both Zinchenko and Mendy. I think someone already reported that we were willing to listen to offers for Mendy and Zinchenko. Sam Lee maybe?

I can't claim to be an expert, but several media types and posters on here who I respect and know far more then I do have spoken highly of him. He impressed and seems ready for a step up. I think a loan next year is far more likely, and perhaps you're right and he'll never be good enough but I'm not one to write off a 22 year old coming off a strong season, especially since he's been brought up through the academy

Don't know about paying the quoted £40M for him, but I guess that's the homegrown premium in action. Anyway, good signing as a 3rd/4th choice CB and emergency LB but hope we are still planning on signing a genuinely top class CB ( I don't think Ake is at that level).
