Nathan Ake

It feels a bit weird that we're stalling on Cucurella and waiting for the Ake situation to be resolved before we move (if what Sam Lee and Bollus are saying is true).

Surely signing a new CB isn't linked to Cucurella?

We sold Torres in January for around £50m, we've already sold Jesus for £45m, Sterling set to go for £50m and we've sold a few of the younger lads too (Bazuna, Porto, Lavia etc). That's around £200m made in sales already and if we sell Ake that's another £50m +. We've spent £90m so far (add another £15m-£20m if you include Alvarez). Surely we can afford to spend another £100m + even with agent fees etc accounted for. We have never made as much money in sales as now, so does seem a bit strange that we're stalling a bit.

No.. its not strange at all.

Haaland has a release clause which can be removed by a new contract. So we're probably thinking 2 years ahead when we offer him a new contract and have the money for a raise to compete against the Spanish Inquisition.

City don't think short term generally!

Didn't we lose a shed load during the first year of Covid something like over £200m. Then last year broke even so even with the Covid loss allowances we still need to recoup some money for this year to satisfy FFP.
And yes, other clubs will be dealt with differently.

Sam Lee lol

yes he has. there were times where playing him seemed unthinkable because we'd always have a bad game defensively when he was on the pitch. recency bias

No, more like typcal matchday thread arse-twitchery, applied backwards. With some revisionist player bashing when a shiny new toy/fee appears on the horizon thrown in. Pretty fucking poor that.

Playing him was 'unthinkable'? Ffs.

He has been good when he played last season, he has been excellent this season, and yes there is some disparity in quality, but only because this season has been a real step up, not because the last one was shocking. Which is exactly why Chelsea are exploring paying some 50m for him.

He has been unavailable for a lot of both, which is the real issue.

Selling him is absolutely fine and could end up a good move depending on the fee and the replacement, but there really is no need to shit on his ability to such an extreme extent.

Unlucky one this. Think he's a great player. Regular run of games and I think he's absolutely class think he willccdo very well if he goes there. But he is our 4th choice and if somebody offers you that kind of cash for your 4th choice you take their hands off. Especially in this day and age. Fortunately we have 3 of the best central defenders playing for us

That's fair enough if that is the case, but we've been linked with Haaland, Phillips and Cucurella for a few months now, which was probably earmarked as a £130m-£150m incoming budget.

I just don't see how Ake leaving impacts that transfer when we will have already raised funds via Torres, Sterling, Jesus and some of the younger lads.
