Nathan Ake

I think he could be as good as Ake on the ball.
He is in the high percentiles of passing stats among defenders. He could be available for around the same fee as Ake - he is only young and could easily be trained up to improve on the ball.

Also starting for Palace and getting in the national team - I'm not sure it'd be a good move for him.

Most people would be attracted to the possibility of playing football for City. He would be the 4th choice but would get a decent (similar number of games to Ake). He has more potential though and could try and challenge Laporte , Dias and Stones.

I'd rather we keep him if he can be convinced to stay. We wont be able to buy better for whatever Chelsea pay in this market IMO, they wont qualify for home grown and Pep will have to start again with another CB teaching him the system. The end of last season proved 3 CBs is not enough for City(amount of games, style of play) and that the academy lads aren't quite ready to be relied upon in the PL yet.

The only way it makes sense, is if he really wants out and it doesn't sound like he does.

You would think Chelsea would be back in for him if that was the case. Or Tomori. Both club trained

I think he would be attracted to the move but I do think we could replace him. Ake is not on the same level as Dias, Laporte or Stones - I think he could be replaceable - teaching a new defender the system may not be too difficult with 3 quality defenders ahead of him - it didn’t take Rúben Dias long. I like Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace as a replacement available for a similar fee to what he would get for Ake and much younger , already part of England set-up, homegrown.

I’ve actually heard a lot of Chelsea fans wanting Guehi back - regretting the decision to sell him. Tomori would command a huge fee. I think they are missing a trick.

I really don't see what you see in Guehi and I can see him taking longer than Ake did to get up to speed. Even if it eventually works out, I don't see the point in it, if we can avoid it... The time invested in Ake would have been wasted, it's not just about money, Pep and the team have enough to concentrate on next season. He's nowhere near Dias either, so I don't know why you mentioned that.

That said, if Ake wants to go, then he's an option. I didn't know he was part of the England set up tbf(must have passed me by that), that probably bumps his price up if anything though. We'll see what happens, if Pep and the rest of the staff like him as a replacement, then I wont argue.

My point was that Ake was not on the same level as Stones , Dias or Laporte so if we had to sell Guehi could be a decent option. I would rather we kept Ake 100% I rate him highly. I was just saying that Guehi was someone who could be a potential replacement. Conte was looking at him a few weeks ago according to a few reports

Ah ok, misinterpreted you there then. Thought you were wanting the swap. I agree he's not as good as our other 3 but he was getting there towards the end of the season for me. Had some man of the match performances in some big games, which I never saw coming. I added another paragraph just before you replied, long story short, I wouldn't argue with Guehi as a replacement if we had to get one(depending on the asking price).

Yep because he is fourth choice they think they can low ball us well we hold all the cards even if we tell Ake he can go but only if we receive the fee we think is right!

the power is in City's hands regarding Ake, if the offer isn't what we value him at, he stays.

If Chelsea really want him then they have to meet our valuation.
