With our high line style of play. You can't really play 34yr old playersI don't think we need a fourth CB worth 40-50 million. A Pablo Mari/Johnny Evans type would be fine. Someone with PL experience on the older side who can fill a gap when needed. That's it.
Do we have a buy back on Tosin? Perfect for 4th choice and should come cheap too whilst we can invest funds on Cucurella and Raz replacement. Club trained too so will help us out in CL squad quota.

These Ake to Chelsea rumours have been going round for quite a while now. Is it fair to say that Harwood-Bellis probably isn’t going to get his chance here? Seems unlikely considering we’ve let him to go Burnley even with the uncertainty around Ake’s future.

that's the core issue. Decent quality player who is happy with being 4th choice.
Sterling may sign soon enough , I think Ake will take a bit of time coz we need to get in someone 1st

What is going on in this club? we are literally selling every player. Selling Raz and Ake to Chelsea in the same window will make them much stronger. We should buy a CB and a LB in coming days.

Who’s to say we don’t? It’s already been reported we won’t sell Ake without a replacement and Cucurella deal is in the works?? If a couple of more youngsters go I won’t be surprised if we moved for a winger in the next couple of weeks as well.

He's not as good as Rudiger, but he's a perfect player for them on the left if they continue to play a back three. Although I don't think they even have two senior centre backs at the moment, and the one they do have is 37.
It's annoying because I think we've got the perfect set of CBs right now, but ultimately it's always going to be hard to keep a fourth choice player happy if he's anyone decent.

Great transfer window so far. Getting 150m for non-starters is truly impressive. As much as I appreciate Ake and Sterling, I don't think they are vital for us in the big games. The only one I think is very important for us is Jesus. His pressing and link-up play in the big games has always been superb.
Anyway, Chelsea is not our rival for the title, so making them stronger is not that big of a deal. Also, they have lost Rudiger and Christensen, and both are better than Ake (or at least Rudiger for sure is).
To replace Ake, I would play it risky. After all we are talking about a 4th CB. Someone young and inexperienced (outside of PL), but with a lot of potential. Maybe Serie A or Ligue 1 defender.

This is basically the only window where we could get 45m for a 4th choice CB who is expected to start maybe 15-20 games in a season. Probably an opportunity too good to turn down.
Whoever we sign as a replacement will probably be a downgrade. But let's hope the club makes up for that by strengthening at LB.

I really like Ake but the guy couldn’t stay healthy here. When he played I was impressed, especially towards the last half of last season, but when we needed him most at the end of the season, he wasn’t fit and we struggled with Fernandinho.
