National Anthem - 'Britain or England'?

But we are not China.We are so much more civilised than them.We should have a sporting melody instead of a National anthem.The word National is far too strong and shouldn't be used under any circumstances.

We are a Nation so it would be a Natiomal song,why as English should we care what others think.
The Rugby have their National Anthems so why should we not.

Because it may upset certain groups of people in the country,and a few on bluemoon ;-)

I think what people are saying is that God Save The Queen should be used when we are competing as Britain (eg Olympic Games), and a seperate anthem should be used when we are competing as seperate nations (eg World Cup).

But, I disagree with the posters who say that England players could not get inspired by God Save The Queen.

How, as a player about to represent your country, could you not be inspired by this.......

It's no less inspiring than us City fans singing a song written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.

Fuck Britain, we are representing England, not the taffs, paddies and the jocks. I hate all this British bullshit, I personally have never considered myself British because I wish to have no affiliation with the countries mentioned. We stick with God Save the Queen, and if people want something different use Land of Hope and Glory, not some shit like Rule Brittannia.

I'm the complete opposite. All this St Georges stuff seems contrived and artificial to me. I'm proud to be English but even prouder of Britain. I'd like to get rid of the home nations different FA's, and just have a British FA.

Ah yes, so the rest of us can all sit and watch English players and join in on the wank fest before every cup and watch it fail.

We should have neither.Our National anthem is just for middle aged skin head thugs.I don't think their should be any flag waving,no face painting or anything else that might suggest allegiance towards our country.

We should all just sit at home and watch with a tiny litle bit of interest and cheer loudly for everyone else taking part in the tournament.

You can only legally display the cross of st george flag for certain periods outside your own property..

I only ever fly the cross of St. George the union flag is not my countries flag
I am English not british

I agree, I'm not British, and it pisses me off when English sportsmen and women get given Union Jacks when they've acheived something, but the Jocks, Taffs and Paddys get their national flags, really does annoy me.
