NBC want two English games to be played in USA

I’m a relatively new football fan and even when I started watching the MLS wasn’t really on TV. Meanwhile I could watch almost every single EPL game (now all). I don’t think people in Europe realize how lucky they are to have world class football and amazing environments outside their door. (And I don’t want that to change - I don’t want regular season games in the US.)

I live in a city with a MLS team, but it’s still a 90 min+ miserable drive from my house to sit in a half empty stadium. I support/attend other local sports, but for football, it’s hard for anything local to compare with City.
Thats fair enough.
And nice you want to watch City.
But unless you come to England it will be on tv

Personally can't see it happening but if it did, the only way it be fair is if you play the team your playing twice over there! So it's the home and away game out the way no advantage for one of the teams!

Teams go there on the Wednesday get used the time difference then play Saturday night and Tuesday night leave Wednesday morning then play Sunday 16:30 back in the premier!
No advantage to either of the two teams playing there, but an advantage to the other 18 teams in the league as they all get 1 extra home game. They'd have to have every team playing there twice.

i should probably stop giving the greedy bastards ideas now!

The drip drip of it the narrative of it will gradually change

At the moment it’s illegal under FIFA anyway, there’s a court case going on about it now, so until that’s resolved permanently we can all just ignore this rage bait.

US Soccer has also forbidden foreign league games to be played in the USA, so even if FIFA have to change their stance because of that case, US Soccer has to change their mind as well.

Of course, with our popularity in the States, we’re bound to be near the top of the list of teams that NBC would want over there.

Even then, if you were Luton, would you rather play City at a neutral venue (a game you’re likely to lose anyway) or Forest?

I would much rather we played Liverpool twice a season in New York than once at home and once at Anfield, because I think we’d suddenly start beating them nearly every time.

And herein lies the major problem with this idea. It doesn’t matter what permutation of games you host over there, it compromises the integrity of the competition in one way or another.

The only way it could ever be fair is if it weren’t part of the regular 38-game season but the idea of the title being decided by play-offs overseas is equally grotesque to people, myself included.

I’m not against the idea of games being played overseas in principle, I just don’t think it can be done without ruining the competition in one way or another.

Yep, the whole thing's a daft idea that needs putting in the bin.

It's up to fans in your area to change that. It's about growing your own league and clubs. Get organised, turn up week in week out, then suddenly you've got the numbers filling the stadium and, in theory, an atmosphere. I know you guys seem a bit alien to atmosphere, but you'll at least get whatever the Yank equivalent is called.

I did see City play in England this year and that’s part of the reason I don’t want regular season games in the US. With the risk of sounding trite, it was really magical. That atmosphere could never be replicated here.

Absolutely terrible idea, but if it ever goes ahead can we please make it Spurs away, so we don't have to go to Northumberland Park anymore!
