Nedum Onuoha

With all the eulogising about the home grown players and how we need them etc. can somebody remind me what we have achieved with previous players of similar ilk and coming through the ranks in the last 30 odd years?

From the whole youth system as far as i can recall during this period the only players we have made serious money on are Tommy Caton and SWP,(though inherited from Forest) though no doubt i'll be corrected on this. And during these times the only thing we have known are relegation and promotion, no cups..but a final appearance! No championships, one semi-final thats spanned a generation.

Hardly a great advert for it is it?
Which is the point I made when people were screaming about Hughes forcing Jim Cassell out. The argument (from Hughes) was that the youngsters weren't being equipped for life in the first team squad and that's why he wanted Jim Cassell to do things differently.

I think Ned is one of the better prospects but he's just not had enough of a run over the last three seasons and we've moved on. I'd love him to be given one more season to try to prove himself but it seems he knows what his fate is.

where is ned in the pecking order given a fully fit squad? 3rd/4th choice at best
and if we get boateng he will looking down the barrel so really no chance to prove himself

Sunderland fan here.

Do you reckon he would come here?

If so, is he best at CB or RB, and what would his likely transfer fee and wages be?

I don't see why he wouldn't go to Sunderland

Probably best at centre half because he isn't great with the ball at his feet, but solid enough at either centre half or right back when it comes to out and out defending, he's done a job at left back too.

Transfer fee would be around £4 million probs, which would be a steal if he can stay fit (big If considering his injury history). Wages probably aren't too high either, Ned ain't on mega bucks

He would probably go to Sunderland. No offence intended but it's probably his level if we're honest with ourselves.

He's not a natural first choice for us pushing for top 4 and whilst I like the fact he's a local lad and a blue I don't think these things should be taken into consideration when picking a team.

Just make sure Steve Bruce holds his hand every day and wipes his arse because otherwise he'll be on national TV running your club and management into the ground.

Not true.

It is not racist to refer to an individual’s nationality. It’s simply a statement of fact. However, that doesn’t mean you should say it. Would you refer to a poor footballer as ‘that Muslim
midfielder’. Would you refer to a member of your staff as ‘that disabled one’? They are facts
but in this context they are irrelevant. I notice no-one referred to Nedum as the ‘the black
defender’?

In my opinion, I would not refer to Mancini as ‘that Italian’ because I am uncomfortable with it. Just as I dislike our owner being referred to, in a negative context, as ‘the Arabs’. It’s much simpler to make reference to an individual’s name rather than his/her ethnicity

I have to correct you on your reference to the comment about it being considered by “low-ranking, public sector jobsworth numpty as racist, but in the real world it quite clearly isn’t”. The public sector is subject to far more stringent legislation when it comes to ethnicity. For
example, having to complete impact assessments in terms of ethnicity. This is not a choice of
public authorities. It is a legal obligation. However, no legislation that covers the work of public authorities would regard this as 'racist'. That is a fact.

What most disaapointed me about your post is your negative reference towards the 'low paid'. You do realise that a lot of Blues are low-paid and from areas of high social and economic
deprivation, with a significant proportion of them probably in low-ranking public sector jobs?

PMSL, so I'm racist and a snob.

This thread has moved into comedy territory.

Anyone else ready to pontificate at me?

Homophobic could be next. Or sexist maybe.

"offended" PMSL

Where did I say you were racist, fella? I said that your comments were not racist. I am confused.

As for being a snob, your comment came across that way. Referring to someone in a negative
manner with reference to them being 'low paid' is snobbery.

Would be said to see Nedum go. Especially as he is a city fan too. I'd rather keep him over zab and king bling

I think there is every chance he would come to you and for me he is best at CB, as for a fee I would think in the 6m type range, but that all depends on how much the relationship has broken down

We need 8 defenders and assuming Boateng signs we've got him, Bridge, Sylvinho, Garrido, Toure, Kompany, Lescott, Richards, Zabaleta, Onuoha plus Boyata, Vidal, Logan etc.

I'd put him above Zab, Richards and maybe even Toure. But we don't see what the manager and coaches see.

-- Mon May 17, 2010 10:52 pm --

OK - I've got the story on Onuoha.

He had a meeting with RM a while ago and no one apart from them knows what was actually said at that but possibly it was that Ned didn't figure in RM's plans. However, it's known by the other players that RM believes Ned isn't quick enough, which is bizarre considering his sprinting history.

The players seem to think this is bizarre as well because when Ned scored that goal, Bellamy (who was on the bench) had a go at Mancini, saying something to the effect of "You said he wasn't quick enough. Did you see that? What's your excuse now?"

So Ned was a bit unhappy anyway but kept his counsel. However just before he filmed Soccer AM, he found out that, without his knowledge, he'd been offered to Everton. That really pissed him off hence his remarks.
