Which is the point I made when people were screaming about Hughes forcing Jim Cassell out. The argument (from Hughes) was that the youngsters weren't being equipped for life in the first team squad and that's why he wanted Jim Cassell to do things differently.1_barry_conlon said:With all the eulogising about the home grown players and how we need them etc. can somebody remind me what we have achieved with previous players of similar ilk and coming through the ranks in the last 30 odd years?
From the whole youth system as far as i can recall during this period the only players we have made serious money on are Tommy Caton and SWP,(though inherited from Forest) though no doubt i'll be corrected on this. And during these times the only thing we have known are relegation and promotion, no cups..but a final appearance! No championships, one semi-final thats spanned a generation.
Hardly a great advert for it is it?
I think Ned is one of the better prospects but he's just not had enough of a run over the last three seasons and we've moved on. I'd love him to be given one more season to try to prove himself but it seems he knows what his fate is.
