A minutes round of applause tomorrow is complete balls, is there a panel that decides which politicians get this and which ones don't?

Oh my fucking Lord. There is a never ending wave of it.

Are you seriously so self centred that you can't take 1 minute out of your life to applaud one of the most important people to have graced this earth.

Best leave them to their sorry little hatefest mate.
You can only give folks the facts.
Sadly you can't give them the intellectual apparatus with which to appreciate them.
If folk choose not to respect Mandela's passing, then that is up to them.
I'm out of here now, as all I can see is bitterness and bickering.

It is starting to get a bit personal and there is nothing to achieve by staying here. I felt obliged to have my say. I should have known better.

Seemed a decent enough fella, and the world won't be a better place for his passing. It's a real shame that all these politicians going on about what as great man he was never actually lived and led by his example - the World would be a far better place if they did.

I wonder if the victims families of his early years will think that too?

I get that, but he served his time, and once he came to power he showed incredible leadership. Gordon Brown's comments earlier about Mandela's influence on the world stage even after he'd left power spoke mountains for his diplomacy and force of will. Again, every world leader serving now, and for the last 20 years, could learn from Mandela's example.

Oh, and for the handwringers upset at some on here showing a 'lack of respect', think back to the Thatcher thread and some of the hateful bile that was posted on there. Nothing I've seen on here comes close to the level of hate on there. Can't believe someone has even used the word 'racist'. It's pretty obvious that this thread will now descend into the childish name calling that has taken over Bluemoon.

I have nothing against Mandela, my point is around politicians as this will always divide people. You think he is important but there will be haters as you can see from this thread.
