Nelson Mandela RIP

Though working out there in the 1980s I know a few friends and colleagues who's lives were adversely affected by Mandela coming to power, but it was obviously coming the winds of change and all that, mainly it was down to them nasty Americans turning the sanction screw on South Africa.
For anyone who's been they will know how beautiful a country it is and should big enough to give all there a good living. Unfortunately at the moment and its no good shying away from the fact the majority population won't make a good job of running the country and as a nation its probably downhill from here because whatever you say about Mandela he did keep a bit of a lid on things. As for minutes silence why we would have one over here i'm struggling to understand do we have one if a U.S. president passes away or a German one no I think this is driven by the T.V. saint makers if we do have a minutes silence then i'll observe it like I would any minutes silence out of respect for others I struggle with the reasons behind it though.

Having spent 2 weeks in Crete with a hotel full of Swedes munching Herrings for breakfast you would be furious with them as well

Having spent a week in spain with a lovely swedish couple I was delighted to have met them. We keep in touch.

Believe me i would have liked to have kept in touch with a lot of the Swedes there in Crete if you know what i mean!! weird eating habits though and a penchant for wearing rag shirts was a bit off putting

I think you will find that more people died at the hands of the ANC than were killed by their own Government. Still, let's not ruin a thread by posting facts eh?

I think that now you bring up something with no connection whatsoever to anything i wrote in my post that you should show me the figures for the point you raised.

I realise it may be tricky to find an indisputable source due to the thousands of un-recorded murders carried out by the ruling government of the time but give it a go.

In fact, post as many facts as you like, i'll look at them all.

I don't know much about it personally but for all the hate coming his way I can only say this

Perhaps in the dark days of South Africa where you have no rights, no freedom and you are valued no higher than a dog then perhaps you live by a completely different set of rules. What do you do in a place where you are killed because of the colour of your skin, your women raped, your children beaten ? What do you do when nobody cares ? Who do you tell ? If I had to fight for my family against tyrany then I could honestly say regardless of my morals and values I WOULD kill. I'd say walk a day in that mans shoes and then judge his life. I bet he wishes things could have been different but that would have involved fairness and equality, something many have died for.
