Netherlands General Election

At the end of the day he only got 25% of the popular vote which means three quarters of Dutch voters don't agree with him. Differing systems can falsely magnify the outcome.Nimbylanders vs the urban progressives ...how do you reconcile these factions through parliamentary democracy these days? I suppose just let the numbers play out in the various chambers as long as things aren't Gerrymandered to fuck.
He stands little chance of heading a government it would seem

It worked well in Germany pre war,

It’s 2023 and I’ve little doubt he has won seats because many are pissed off with immigration not being controlled.

Its a Europe wide issue.

People in 1933 Germany wanted to believe that they had lost WWI because of Jews and Communists.
It was utter bollocks, but it was what they wanted to hear.

Lots of people believed the UK would be like Camelot once we were out of the EU. It was utter bollocks, but it was what they wanted to hear.

A good 20%, maybe more, think immigration can be stopped by leaving the ECHR. It is utter bollocks, but it's what they want to hear.

A responsible government (of any colour) tells people what they ought to do, not what they can do. But we haven't had one for some time.
We have become Camelot, to be fair.

But doesn't this just prove that people have genuine concerns and it just doesn't work to keep calling them stupid and putting them down? If not then you can't be surprised when they happily vote for dangerous people.

It isn't for example Islamophobic to be concerned over the growth of Islam in Europe. Why would you not be concerned for an increasing population that follows a religion that demands the execution of gay people and treats women as second class citizens?

We should be extremely open to cultures but it's right to be suspicious of religion and the crap it brings. I'd say the same for Christianity however thankfully most Christians are now becoming atheists.
I respectfully disagree with your overriding point. It is Islamophobic to be concerned about Islam having a place in Europe. I have met many Muslims in my life, I'm good friends with a Muslim, to the best of my knowledge he doesn't spend his leisure time throwing gay people off buildings or subjugating women; in fact, he's one the soundest blokes I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Why should I treat this man with disdain because a bunch insecure social media hounds froth at the mouth and spit filth that doesn't reflect the vast majority of his creed? This isn't Saudi Arabia. Millions of Muslims have integrated themselves into Britain with respect and gratitude. Let me ask you, has a Muslim ever adversely affected your life? Have you ever felt your liberties curtailed because Islam has a place in our society? If you can't answer those questions in the affirmative, then your fear of Islam is frankly irrational. I would canvass that question to the entire forum and be surprised if I get any response of substance.

Religion is a means of comfort for many. The vast majority of followers of any religion follow with grace and don't force their views on others. Restricting or proscribing any practice of different faiths in a supposed democratic state is a dangerous road that only terminates with fascism and hate.

I'm thankful that it's a road this country will never go down.

I can see that, how do we control it? Is it not just a symptom of other? Short of using violence to deter people

In Italy I’ve seen the results sub Saharan Africans doing crap menial work, and thinking what hell had they come from in order to think it was a better life there than back home

I don’t have any answers unfortunately
