New around these here parts......

I went to the Cottage ages ago to watch them play Hull (why???). The inside-forwards were Bobby Robson & Johnny Haynes

Seems like yesterday.

Loved my trip to Fulham a few years back, we won 4-2. We were in the wetherspoons pub on the river before the match. Better than the trip in the eighties when we were 5 down at half time. It was the year one of the boats sank before the race. Having a beer on terrace before the match, chatting up a lovely policewoman.

I lived and worked in West London for a while (lived in Hounslow, worked in Osterley). One weekend I walked out of my flat and decided I was going to watch whoever was at home in London that weekend. Fulham just so happened to be at home and were also one of the nearest clubs to where I was living.

I went in the neutral end in a match against Villa and I believe Fulham won 2-1. Fulham were playing City the weekend after (the 2-4 with the Kompany own goal), and I was also able to get a ticket for that game too.

In the City match I went in with our lot obviously and bumped into some lads from my estate who were so pissed that they didn't realise I wasn't on their coach down.

My abiding memory of the neutral end against Villa, was a couple turning up with a young child and the woman wiping the seats before they sat down. Never seen it in a ground since and I actually went to sit with the Villa fans instead.

When I was a kid (here we go), you could walk around the entire ground (except for the Enclosure under the Steveange Road Stand). So before they built the Riverside Stand, you could watch the Boat Race go by in April from that standing terrace.

We always stood in the away end. Dunno why. Probably because it made an easier getaway at the end of the game.

Can't get my head around people buying a season ticket - and possibly having to sit next to some annoying twat (like me!) for 9 months.

(All-seater grounds......yet another thing we have to thank those lovable Scousers for.)
One of the few things all football fans in Manchester, can agree on,is our hatred for them scouse c@#$%. Whats the general opinion of them in Fulham.

Hello All,

I recently registered and want to introduce myself. Ric has very kindly allowed me to start this thread, as maybe an opportunity for non-City fans on Bluemoon to introduce themselves - if they want to. For me, it felt rude just jumping in and posting without saying who I am and why I’m on here.

So, cards (albeit a joker) on the table: I’m a lapsed Fulham supporter, but your lads and manager (and especially this forum) have rekindled my interest in football.

I haven’t been to The Cottage for about 30 years (!), as I pretty much despise the modern pro game and all it has come to stand for.

From cringey badge-kissing, feigning injuries, obscene wages, ‘professional footballers’ only being able to kick with one foot, etc., the game has had it at pro level for me (yes folks, you’ve got a miserable bastard on your hands). And my view was formed a long time ago.

However, one good thing about how (mostly) predictable money has made football (esp. the Prem) is that I’ve made a few quid betting on it. Not fortunes, but bills money – which has been a life-saver over the past 2 years.

Rather daftly, part of my ‘research’ is having a look at club supporters’ forums; to see how they fancy their chances/what injuries/news they have etc. in games I’m looking at for a bet. Mostly, that’s a futile exercise, as it’s generally the same mix of blind optimism and doom and gloom merchants.

However, this forum is an exception. I have become a regular visitor to Bluemoon, because there’s tons of great sense spoken about the game....and a lot of brilliant banter and proper laughs.

I also respect your humility, and how you never forget about the times when you were struggling, and that it all goes round in circles for the big teams (sadly not for my lot!). What I mean is you realise all the big sides seem to get a spell on top, but also have relative ‘wilderness’ periods.

Of course, your side has played sublime stuff for many years. But what I appreciate as much, is that you don’t have any nasty bastards in your squad; no one rolls around to get players booked or holds up imaginary cards to the ref etc. In a nut-shell, your team plays with amazing fairness and honesty. That’s pretty much unheard of nowadays– and you should be equally proud of that, as of the incredible stuff you play.

Special mention to your ex-skipper, who is as near to Bobby Moore in terms of talent and pure humanity as any footballer I’ve seen since. I believe Vincent (and Pep) has a lot to do with how liked you are in the football world (by genuine footie lovers, not the legacy media, or idiots with agendas).

Anyway, I really hope you can accept me into the fold. And I promise you I’ll never ever forget that I am a guest in your house (so of course I will expect tea and cake whenever I pop by).

All the best, and look after yourselves!!

All very good words, but unless you were at York away.....

Did we play them in the snow once ?
I think I remember that game,Bobby was manager, maybe the first prem winning season. I was renovating our house and had to set up the computer in the one decent room we had so I could stream the match( a night match). I remember dreading it being abandoned cos the pitch was white over and we cruised the game 3-0. In the post match interveiw though, the first question to Bobby was....do you think there was an element of luck about your win? he just looked at amazement at the interveiwer and replied.....3-0. An early example of the shite questions in post match interviews that are now the norm sadly.

Welcome.
Mentioned it on here before. My abiding memory of Craven Cottage is just before Xmas 1984. As we did quite often in the 80s a few of us paid into the home seats for the match. We were above a paddock with the City fans just to our left. It was dead quiet so we decided to ask stewards to let us go into the City end. They said ok and walked us down steps, into the paddock then through a gate and onto pitch. 5 lads turned left but me and one other lad decided to walk right round the pitch for a laugh. When we got to the far end the lad with me said "I'm going to nick that bag" he was pointing at a bag in the back of the Fulham goalkeepers net !!. I said yeah right but sure enough he walked round goalpost picked up bag and put it under his coat.
Unfortunately City were attacking as he did it and all eyes were on the Fulham box. I turned and walked away as police and stewards appeared from everywhere.
We both ended up getting nicked.
We were in Horseferry Rd magistrates in the New Year and I got fined £50 for breach of the peace and my mate got fined £80 for theft of a bag containing spare gloves and a flannel!!!
Day after court The Sun had a headline saying "6784(?) Witness Theft". Also on Radio One I think it was Mike Read on his show had my mate as his Loser of the Day!!!
Anyway not seen Sean for about 30 years but I reckon he still owes me £50.
