New home kit?

For a Layman like myself this is a puzzler. During our first season playing among the elite of Europe, with all the exposure it brings, Umbro have chosen to abandon our traditional colours in favour of adopting Coventry City's. I have no doubt an Umbro marketing guru will beguile us with the kit's hidden significance and abstract relevance to the [Manchester] City cause, but this does seem a little bizarre, although of course I'm simply just a sorry Layman.

When you think of a club, what's the first thing you associate with them?

The city they represent, and in particular, their colours.

When you say Milan, you evoke thoughts of bold red and black stripes.

Real Madrid, all consuming white.

And so on.

In our breakthrough season we'll be playing in a shirt plastered with navy blue dots across its face and decorated with a checkered collar, while the shorts will be entirely blue and they'll be joined by blue and white stripped socks.

Nice one Umbro.

Im sorry but im gonna ask on here as my thread aint got a look in,lol!

Saturdays game,is it televised and if so,where?

Thanks

Sorry again.

You have completely summed up my exact thoughts in a far more eloquent way that I can at the moment because I'm too pissed off.

To be honest, the soundwave dots are fairly subtle and won't be that noticeable on TV/at the game.

I agree though about what you say, and made the same point to Matty tonight. It's our first season in the limelight of the Champion's League, so we should really be in a traditional kit.

I think Umbro's problem was that their first kit (09/10) was almost too perfect; you couldn't really improve on that, in my eyes at least.

However, they got criticised for last season's kit because it was too similar to the previous one. Therefore, they had to differentiate this one to justify people buying it. Just not sure they went the right way about it.

It's on ESPN but not the UK's. I'm expecting to find a stream on the internet.

Put it this way - beginning of last season, I said to all my mates that our kit looked absolute class, and we deserved to win something wearing that kit!

This season just looks cheap and nasty! So far everyone of Umbro's offerings has been a gem - including this season's away kit - they seemed to understand the tradition of our kit... I never thought they could fuck up so monumentally!

Ric was there any negative reaction at the launch?

Yes, but only from Mark E Smith. He was fairly vocal, shall we say, during the presentation.

For what it's worth, Umbro felt it was the best kit they've ever produced. Although they would say that.

Would you be offended if we changed our name to Manchester Etihad FC? Or if we changed the colour of the home shirt to orange? Or if we moved to a stadium in Liverpool? To me it's the same thing.

You are Oliver Holt and I claim my five pounds.

If you're not on a wind-up and you genuinely think having the shorts in sky blue is the same as changing the name or moving outside Manchester, then you really do need to have a lie down.

The mind boggles.

I'd imagine a few eyes were rolled upon that proclamation.
