I can't believe the other thread was locked, ok tone the abuse down but let us speak about it!
Would Liverpool, utd, spurs, Newcastle, arsenal, Chelsea fans be any less angry about the same situation their back yard? No!
It's about identity, I don't get why some people don't get it.
Liverpool and chelsea have only had the same colour shorts as their shirts since the mid sixties. Previously both wore white shorts. Though if the scousers changed back to their more traditional white it would be on national news for a month. Also spurs have all white about as often as we have all blue. I do agree though, white shorts and shirt trim goes better with sky blue shirts.
In the wc many teams went for white shorts and socks or all one colour and lost their iconic colours as a result.
Firstly – teams wore the kits they did in the WC because of a FIFA directive asking them to wear all one colour if possible – or to not be 'multicoloured', hence why Brazil spent most of the tournament in yellow shirts with white shorts and socks etc. – I thought it was piss poor and completely needless... I mean why? Brazil looked shite with white shorts... yet add the traditional blue shorts and they looked fucking classic!!!
As for Liverpool/Chelsea – I have stressed many times now that if you look at kit history, in the period mid-to-late 1960's, every big team chose a strip and has stuck with it ever since. It is their Identity... look at the last 28 kits for the Rags... regardless of manufacturer it is, without fail, red shirt/white shorts/black socks (and before anyone says it - yes I know their European kit had white socks, but that is a different matter).
Look at the last 28 kits for the Dippers, again without fail, all red!
Our kit SHOULD be predominantly SKY BLUE SHIRT and WHITE SHORTS – that can include navy blue trim/white trim... whatever, as long as that is left unchanged – sock colour I'm not overly bothered about, navy, sky blue or white all work nicely.
Fact is we get messed about like a lower division team – in today's modern game, and with the club being so savvy when it comes to marketing and branding, you'd think they'd get the most visual part of that branding correct – get it sorted City BLUE and WHITE!!!
