New panel on Question of Sport

Only the person who made the decision knows why but if she's been given the job because of the colour of her skin when black people are already overrepresented on TV then that is the kind of racism that should have no place in our society.

If she's been given it because they genuinely believe she's the best person for the job then nobody can have any complaints but I don't blame anybody for thinking it's the former reason given the timing of the appointment and the way the BBC have acted over the past few months.

FWIW, I think Question of Sport was a bit stale and needed a makeover and a bit more personality but from what I've seen of Alex Scott, she doesn't seem to be brimming with personality either so I doubt it will be much of an improvement.

Technically there was no city fans, this game was a month before we were formed.
Yep , we formed as Manchester City in 1894 , although we have actually been in existence under other names since 1880 ... namely St Marks(West Gorton) and Ardwick FC, but those early versions of what eventually became MCFC would still have attracted fans that stuck with us.

Likewise with United, who were initially formed as 'Newton Heath LYR' back in 1878 , by a scouser in a trainyard ..... they then later changed their name to Manchester United in 1902 ... but they would still have gathered support from their early days.

I’m not sure black people are ‘over represented’ on TV but I know they are over represented in prison settings, poor housing and have worse outcomes in mental health settings and black kids are more likely to be expelled from school. So if they get a few extra gigs on the telly no real harm dome when you look at the big picture.....

According to this, the ME population is overrepresented on screen.

Now that isn't an issue for me as long as the reason they're overrepresented isn't the colour of their skin.

Likewise, the same principle applies in the context of mental health, prison settings etc.

If black people are going to prison more though because they are being racially persecuted, I'd like that to be rooted out and dealt with rather than giving a black person an Argos advert on TV as a token.

From a representation point of view re QoS you surely can’t look at the population as a whole, simply the demographics which make up professional sportsmen/women in this country? I don’t know, I’m not a statistician

It also gives visibility of minorities to minorities watching i.e creates ambition and breaks down stigma I.e ‘I can do that’

Black people shop at Argos, of course they should be in adverts
