New York City FC Thread (new away kit P245)

People need to get over their forum.

Lampard was a huge issue for them. It's understandable that people would rant, and not take kindly to suggestions that they shouldnt.

A lot of our fans that went over there to have "balanced, constructive discussion" came across as arrogant, patronising and raglike. I would have slagged them off if the roles were reversed and the posts were made on bluemoon.

Disappointing game last night, you can see how these squad additions are much needed. Cracking attendance and atmosphere, the club looks very much on track to do very good things.

The thing is, people don't go over to their forums to give "constructive arguments in defence of MCFC". A few have come and been reasonable for a while, but very few seem to be able to resist the lure of slipping towards "we gave you your club, suck it up" - and what's worse, it's usually (not always, but usually) said not in a gentle or suggestive way but in an arrogant or argumentative style that positively invites the angry replies.

Can anyone here honestly say that if we bought Pogba, and he was properly announced and so on, and then as the start of the season came round, when it was obvious that City's renovations were built around his place in the team, it was announced that Juve had decided to take him back on loan until February, that you wouldn't burst with fury? I know I would. Maybe if the deal all along was that he would be loaned back for half a season people would accept it, but the transfer was announced and then suddenly it was revealed that actually he was never signed, and Juve want him back thank you very much. People would be apoplectic.

And then imagine that, after that happening, Bluemoon starts getting flooded with Juve fans coming in saying "what you've got to appreciate is that Pogba will probably win you the Champions League in a few years time. We don't care that you're not getting him now, just think of how good you'll feel in 2021!" And imagine that it didn't happen once but it kept happening for six months in a slow but continuous trickle. You better bet that Ric and the mods would be banning them, and the forums would be going into meltdown every time the next one signed up.

Oh, and by the way - "the guy who runs their forum" is a City fan. He's just been forced to do this because the forum basically tore itself apart every time the next one signed up. I'm also a City fan first and foremost and an admin on their forum, and even I've got sick of seeing new City fans signing up, even though at the start I was truly hoping that both teams would get along like brothers in arms.
Bollocks. That forum is full of anti-City shite. The following post is apparently snide and backhanded, which apparently meant I should GTFO of their forum. I know I'm not the only one who has encountered or witnessed strange anti-City behaviour. IIRC I believe @Damocles has seen some.

Anyway, proper snide this.

If the club pull this off, it will catapult the club into headlines across the world. David Villa is a quality player, even at 32. We're talking about a World Cup & Champions League winner whom fans of many clubs in the Premier League would have in their squad as third or fourth choice striker (those in the lower-half of the league might even push to first or second choice).

NYCFC "fans" are literally the worst grouping of fans I've ever come across in terms of their obliviousness.

This is obvious really, it's a brand new club and as such will attract a huge amount of people who are willing to switch clubs and don't understand what's wrong with it. It's even more amazing to me that a few people will actually deny this, and is one of those good examples of where rationality is often dismissed when it goes against what you want to be true.

It will take them a few years to sort out a proper fanbase. Right now they're still full of fans of the scum and people who literally have no idea about sawker.

Did NYCFC pay £70m for Lampard?

Big ups to 238 for being mostly fucking silent after Red Bull scored and clearing out before full time. You guys were a fucking credit to the team, well done.

Worst they've played in awhile and the Third Rail was completely shown up in the second half. That sucked.

This was a Derby match at home.

Where's this other community? Wouldn't mind taking a look. The only place I've managed to find some decent NYCFC fans from NY is on Twitter.

That is totally surreal. Lots of them more worried about the singing than the game. And this is one of the weirdest post match analysis football posts I've ever seen. You might have heard one of my mantras on here, "football is not played on the internet", when people over-inflate the importance of forums. Check this beauty out.

"Red bull fans really ruined the match thread for me, i don't if they did for others, but fuck, they show no class ever. They downvote brigaded any post by a NYC fan, even if it was mundane or just good shot, and they upvoted every NYRB no matter how obnoxious. They are worse than any other team on /r/mls. They never stop with their shit and they constantly visit NYC threads just to be dicks. It gets less and less fun to visit match threads every week."

I've adopted NYCFC as a sort of sky-blue summer team, and I want them to succeed. However, I can't be bothered reading their forums, and I suggest that other City fans follow suit. We might have connections, but it's a new fanbase in a rapidly expanding Leage, with completely different ideas.
As for the standard, you only have to study the importance of Bradley Wright Phillips to the Red Bulls. It's League One/lower Championship, but it's definitely improving.

Wonder how good idea is it to send some good youngsters to this league? They may play a good season here, than come back to Europe and will be found out even in League One level after thinking they are ready to step up after a good loan here.

Personally I'm a Manchester City fan, as opposed to being a fan of the City extended family. I grew up supporting Manchester City, and I'll always support Manchester City. In modern football I see the value in there being a global presence for City, and New York City FC definitely fulfil that role, by attracting interest and, ultimately, money into Manchester City FC. Beyond that though I really couldn't give a shit how NYCFC, or Melbourne City, or Yokohama Whatevertheyrecalled perform. As long as those clubs serve their purpose, and benefit Manchester City, which is clearly the "flagship" of the global City brand, then great, keep them going. However if a time comes in the future where their presence becomes detrimental to Manchester City, drawing away attention, money and time, then I'd become an advocate of fucking them off. I simply don't care about them if they're not assisting Manchester City to be the best they can be.

I'd been on their forums since the start, I signed up around May 2014. Whilst I agree somewhat with what Falastur says regarding some City fans, as there was quite a few who came across as Rag-ish. But I noticed a lot of posters from here, like @why Always Set I believe and definitely @grandsolo (Solo doesn't have many good things to say about the place!) who were just being normal posters, trying to defend MCFC getting shot down by most other posters. I personally gave up with the place a few months back, who know's I may go back one day but I'd had enough when someone threatened to give up his season ticket because the home kit didn't have Orange trim...

Again Falastur is correct about the owner, Dan is a decent guy and usually does stick up for MCFC. The forum was being tore apart by the Lampard debate, but as Falastur suggested I don't think it was all City fans fault. There are a large number of posters, especially that Midas tw*t who just spouts constant City bile and shows open loyalty to the Red Dippers amongst others.

It'll take a fair few years to get the fancies sorted, as Damocles said, at the moment there's too many people who don't have an idea about Football. I remember when it was a seriously debated issue that the MLS should get some places in the Champions League in a few years time, as their best teams who perform well and that the MLS would be the best league in the World in around 10 years; safe to say anyone who disagreed was completely shouted down.

It's got good potential, but at the moment it's like a strange mix of RAWK and RagCafe.
