Newcastle (a) post match thread

If this lot were up for the challenge tonight was the night to heap pressure on Liverpool and they should have relished the chance.
Instead they’ve given a Scouse outfit a much need shot of adrenaline as they were looking jaded.

Hope I’m wrong but l see the crowd being totally up for it tomorrow as opposed to jittery like they would have been and I see Liverpool putting Leicester away convincingly.

I see dead people.

Would the double pivot have worked though? I feel an 8 dropping to a 6 with a full on regista might have done the trick. Thoughts?
Maybe. The effect is the same though. Extra pressure on opponents.
We are just too fragile at the back this season - especially on the left.

The most annoying thing about tonight is Newcastle didn't even have to play well to beat us. We just kept giving them the ball. We were really poor in possession & complacent after our early goal. I still think we can win the title from here but it doesn't leave us much room for error.

Stones and Laporte maybe a little too similar. Can’t help but think we need a monster like a prime kompany at the back.

Your spot on there, first chance in a long while we have really had a chance to put pressure on them and we fucked it right up, and like you say there players and fans will get a massive lift from our defeat, if we would have won and Leicester kept them out for 30 or so minutes the tension would have got to both the crowd and players, but they can go into tomorrow's game knowing even a defeat doesn't make them worse off

The team is too open, we can't win the CL until we become more pragmatic in defence which Pep won't compromise.
I stand by my statement that even if Pep stays 5 years I don't think we will win it.
Difference is, Pep's a Champions League winner with a colossal win rate for us and you and I are just blokes tapping away on a laptop - and you also make statements you stand by. You don't have a crystal ball. No-one knows who will win the Champions League in the coming years - especially as Real, Barca and Bayern have a lot of players well past their best. The competition is more open than ever. Personally, I wouldn't write us off quite so readily.

I'm sorry for the loss, but watching it I notice something. And that's the lack of fight, the lack of belief and urgency to do something. This is not the mentality of champions, I expected these players to be angry after going 1-1 then I expected it again at 2-1 but it never come. The opposite happened they went into a shell and players feared the ball, players looked like they didn't really want the ball so always looked for an easy option.

I expected champions who are fighters and hungry to win more to react so much better then they have done lately. And unless they get this hunger back the title will end up in Merseyside.

Also I would like to add that dropping Bernardo didn't help with the flow of the play. I believe right now he's the best center midfielder at the club, David Silva is out of form and Kevin is rusty as expected. It will be a while before the real Kevin is back.

Newcastle have the 6th best defensive record in the PL - so I wasn't that confident of a positive result tonight even before the match.

In extra time we were still tippy tappy outside the box - needed to lob it in the box. At least give ourselves the chance of a dodgy pen
Naive
We don’t do “lob it into the box”. We didn’t against QPR and we, rightly, still don’t now.
But anyway, like yourself, I got my first season ticket in 76 after tueart league cup final so respect. Post as little or as often as you like

Still absolutely gutted, but theres still 14 games to go, think about it 14 games theres a long way to go yet, 40 odd points at stake.
Its not over.

Long way off yet.

Leicester, Everton, scum,Spurs,Chelsea and Watford all capable of getting points off the dippers. Need 3 wins out of 3 next week
