Newcastle (a) post-match thread

If only we had outbid them for this guy

Balked at the price he’s easily worth £100 mil in today’s market and above big mistake

Jesus off for rodri was absolutely bizarre. Rodri then proceeds to get done up like a kipper and dinho had to make a foul

Do our recruitment team go off and purposely buy the slowest players possible?

I doubt he's saying the same stuff in private that he's saying in public. He won't hang them out to dry in public. But there's no way he can be happy with that performance.

It is a default position of Pep to defend his players in public as he has in the past with Stones (size of balls), Bravo etc. It creates respect and Pep quite rightly sees it as more important than agreeing with the feelings of needy fans or giving the press an angle to single out a player.

Rodri turned his back on Shelveys shot, should have just ran straight at him.

I love Fernandinho but I don’t know why he escapes so much blame. He’s doing an admirable job playing out of position but he doesn’t look comfortable to me and the foul maybe wasn’t one but it was brainless. We’d be killing Otamendi for making the same mistake. I don’t think there’s much between him and Rodri at Dm at this point but I think it’s time to see whether Garcia can play or just live with Otamendi and Stones and all the continual errors because we are still suffering with Fernandinho back there

You don't watch carefully enough then, from DM he has regularly started our attacks, he runs forward better (into more advanced positions) than Gundogan, who half the time seems to think he's got his own circle in the middle of the pitch which he dare not leave, also he's always available for a pass from either side to link the play across the pitch in a forward manner and rarely dithers on the ball, Gundogan only ever goes sideways, and often dithers, it partly why we are so slow.
Yes, that dithering and dwelling with or on the ball is a major part of our woes this season with a few players. It's like the urge to play a pass and the need for team retention of the ball are cancelling each other out resulting in snail pace attacks.
