Newcastle (a) post-match thread

With that attitude we would only have 1 PL title .... It's not over yet by any means ...
Well I would agree if there was a glimmer of a sign we could go on a 20 match unbeaten run. Sadly, there isn’t any sign of that, indeed the reverse. If we keep in th3 top 4 with a gap to 5th I will be delighted. We have too many parts of the machine below par or simply terrible. Once our injured are back, drop Mahrez, Gundogan, Mendy. Start to build for next season by starting Garcia, Foden, Zinchenko. Sell the first three when we can.

It also speaks volumes for the views Pep must have on Angelino because he can’t be watching Mendy in these games and seeing anything other than a player who is simply not good enough. Whether that is injuries or what I don’t know. He can’t defend and he has forgotten or isn’t being allowed to attack. He offers zero to the side other than a body. It’s baffling he keeps getting picked.

I wish i could see a player that needs games and fitness and the confidence they would bring but i see someone so technically bereft its untrue.

Cant run, pass, defend or tackle and in the run up to their late goal he couldn't even fucking kick the ball.

Abysmal.

Remember he had two major injuries and only a few month in total of actually playing for the club. Yes if he stays injury free and continue like this in April/May, then I’m out of excuses. But I want one full season of the guy. It’s hard to judge a player without it, even if I think he absolutely stinks at the moment.
If he continues to play until April/May we won’t make the top 4

I'm surprised its taken you this long ;-) He's made me fume on numerous occasions, there are times when he doesn't he even look like a footballer, and then he'll do something great, and you wonder if he meant it or was it just luck ?

I was as vociferous last week after Chelsea as well.

He makes my fucking eyes bleed.

I love Pep, but if this was any other manager I’d be convinced they were trying to get sacked. How can he not see same as us?

If he saw the same as us, he wouldn't be paid millions to manage the team and have a career trophy haul as a manager that is pretty much unrivaled for someone of his age.

That doesn't mean he is infallible or perhaps has the odd blind spot but he has too many players that are currently under-performing and has been hit by too many injuries.

I think he has a squad that is a bit jaded from its exertions of the last couple of seasons and frankly having a key opponent that just is not dropping points. I also suspect the players are tired of trying to break down massed defences.

Clearly performances like today are not good enough but City still dominated and should have won but, yet again, we wasted too many good opportunities and then got punished by two excellent strikes against the run of play; albeit both of which should have been defended better. Their second really hacks me off, with Dinho giving away another unnecessary free kick followed by some brain dead marking.

The league is gone now but there is still an awful lot to play for - including as many league points as we can muster - and in the meanwhile a long hard think is needed about how to freshen the squad up. I hope Pep is prepared to stay and do a bit of a rebuild and then go again.

I’m sick of this constant left back issues. It’s been a problem for us for fukcing years. We (Pep and his crew) has to decide once and for all: will Mendy ever be the same? The only way of knowing is to play him week in, week out.
Mendy can't be played at present. He is a million miles off the pace. Top clubs have to be ruthless. Look at someone like Leighton Baines at Everton. He was fantastic but after a long-term injury he was half the player. Mendy has lost all his pace and mobility. No time for sentiment in football I'm afraid.

Thinking back we have at times fielded a side with a core of 5 or 6 world class quality players .Vinnie ,Zaba,Kun,David,Yaya,Fern,KdB. Then we had Sane & Sterling on the verges of breaking into that category. That core has gone or is well past its sell by date and what have got left that is 'world class' ?. I'd say KDB alone. Sterling at times. The rest are good if we restore a core of world class players around them. Huge re-building job not of good players we need great players.

It's the apparent "drop off a cliff" that's the most concerning. We won the whole bloody lot 7 months ago and I remember Gundog's free-kick against Brighton as a thing of spectacular beauty but that may as well have been 70 years ago. Continuous injuries and being shafted by VAR haven't helped but the Pepmeister's stubborness is a right pain in the ass too. Fully expected Gundog's name to be first on the team-sheet for Burnley but he's suspended...! Whatcha gonna do now, Pep?
