Newcastle fans

Yeah me too, even when they signed Shauny Wright and I was pretty heart broken, I still wished him well and applauded him when he came back to play against us. There wasn’t a single boo in the stadium, no reaction like Liverpool fans with Sterling and Sterling didn’t even come through their academy

(although we let ourselves down with the way we reacted to Distin and Sturridge in the past)

Sturridge came across as moving for specific reasons other than football MONEY and its been proved throughout his career that money is the biggest factor in his life, not winning trophies, international caps etc.

The fact he wouldn't stay and fight for a place also came into the equation, he wanted quick fix to the money train and to embrace his ego.

All this after the investment we had made in him when he just started out and support we gave him

Distin was a very good player and I think most of us were gutted with his choices.

Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday in 314 with my 13 year old lad, my seat is right next to the away fans, he was pissing his sides laughing at all the 16 year old lads in the Newcastle end with their tops off offering every City fan out!

The 2 geordies who tried jumping the barrier in the second half were, at a guess, 50 year old men who should really know better, they were that tough about 5 stewards managed with relative ease to keep them in their own end.

Im about 3 or 4 rows behind where the lad get racially abused causing the City on City aggro if anyone knows him feel free to tell him to pm me as I saw it all

My feelings exactly, I had wanted us to get some decent investment ever since Joe Mercer left but that was never going to happen with Swales in charge. I was never going to resent any other club giving the rags a hard time.

It goes beyond "giving the rags a hard time" for me. That's just an added bonus. Fact is that I've never begrudged any club getting a rich owner, regardless of any possible impact on United challenging for trophies. If we cast our minds back to Blackburn and Jack Walker buying them, that was early in the 1991-92 season and United were yet to be hugely successful under Ferguson so weren't the team to beat anyway. Blackburn were something like mid-table in the 2nd division at the time and I just thought it was great for the Blackburn fans, as Walker clearly meant business from the off with bids flying in for Lineker, etc, and that was before Dalglish even took over as manager.

Some posters are saying we might've felt differently if it was a club that came in and pushed us further down the league but it could be argued Blackburn did exactly that, considering we finished 5th in the first division in 1992 and apart from a bad run of results around March time we wouldn't have been far off challenging for the title. At the same time, Blackburn were getting promoted and would go on to finish comfortably higher than us the following season but I never felt any resentment towards them for "taking our place".

Never seen racial abuse at the etihad in 16 years.. thats so sad :( What race was it directed at? Why would someone whos a blue racially abuse another blue? Terrible..

Never forget the animals in the mid eighties As it just so happens they battered us 5-0 at SJP in the old Division Two I was in the City end when thousands of the bastards got into our end not pleasant , but god help us if we had actually got a favourable result The only consolation that day was winning the football team card on A Coach and getting a big hug from the late great Helen ( ring your bell Hel )

Remember the shit we had with these at the Clarence. Something about that pub and ****s from the North East as IIRC those boro ****s were at it one year. Anyway the most fairweather "loyal" fans you'll find; deluded set of ****s.

Thousands? Those pens behind the goal only held about 1500. In the pen I was in there was about 10 who got it at full time. It did kick off badly in the other section but I really couldnt see what was happening apart from a newcastle fan being taken away on a stretcher. There was a big crew afterwards trying to get at our coaches, the police dealt with that. The geordies were asking us if they could walk in our escort to the ground so they clearly wanted to, and did get in our end.

Good point that about how united hadn't really established themselves as dominant by then. I look back and just remember loving it because they beat united to the title but actually now you mention it, at no point did I feel any resentment at all. The narrative across the media was that it was a fairy tale when it was Blackburn whereas with us the narrative in the media right from the start has been that it is an utter disgrace and ruining the game. And as we know from lots of things to do with the media and the public and City, it's sheep we're up against.

Anyone who thinks City “won the lottery” need to take a closer look at the facts. Soon after we moved into , what was at the time , The City Of Manchester stadium , we had a guy on the board called Alistair MacIntosh. The club was looking for investment , possibly from abroad , and sent MacIntosh on a 6 month tour around the globe to seek out potential investors. As a result , Thaksin Shinawatra from Thailand , became the major shareholder. Some time later of course , Shinawatra had criminal accusations to answer to in his native land , and as such , could not continue in his role at the club. His representatives approached His Highness Sheik Mansour , of the Abu Dhabi Emarati Royal Family , and the rest , as they say is history. Modern day football at the highest level , has long been dependent on “outside investment” , since Sky TV and other sponsors , started to plough serious amounts of money into the game. So rather than “winning the lottery” I would suggest that what City did , was recognise how the game was to be financed in the future , would be completely different to what had taken place in the past. Man Utd recently signed a record breaking sponsorship kit deal for £750 million , outside investment that is no different to what the ADU group have been doing at City. As I recall , Everton fans (the people’s club - apparently) were amongst the biggest critics of what had happened at City - yet Bill Kenwright sold the club to an Arab billionaire. I don’t hear any protests from Everton fans about that though. Similarly , if Sheikh Mansour would have offered to buy Newcastle off Ashley , would the Geordie fans have had a big protest against the deal ? - saying “nah thanks pet - we divvin want nah Arab billionaires at our club”. Bitterness and jealousy are indeed 2 words that spring to mind . In contrast , I was at the LC final a few years ago - we beat Sunderland- and their fans stood on the ramparts after the game and , despite losing , applauded City fans all the way back to their coaches.
