Newcastle (H) post match thread

I noticed that too.

I'm hopeful Pep's seen some positive signs in training and all his struggles in this sense are all part of the adaptation process for De Bruyne in this role. If it pays off De Bruyne is going to find a new level in 6-12 months time (if we can be patient).

I’d be interested to see how we’d do with Kev deeper & Phil playing number 10
It might be a case with Kevin that with him now being the fulcrum through the middle, he is just getting crowded out. He was creating all the space for Cancelo tonight. When we went on that great run that won us the league, we played with Gundo sitting deep, then Dave and Kev a bit further forward. They all complimented each other perfectly.

I would like to see a similar formation with Phil involved. It means Phil has to retain possession under pressure and open up play for others. At 20 years of age, that is probably a little too much responsibility on him.

We're still in a title race though and Sergio is on his way back, plus we don't concede goals and are very hard to beat.

We're hard to beat but haven't won enough games. The poor performances of rival teams is disguising our season; if Liverpool were as good as they were in the previous two seasons, out title race would be over. For me, to win a PL, you need to be balanced. We don't score enough. Hopefully Aguero can be back but I can't say with any confidence that he will be fit for the rest of the season.

Really is a shame that Cancelo isn't left footed. The balance we'd have at the back would be unreal with Walker on the right and 2 of Stones/Ake/Dias.

I could only half watch but i'm glad to get the points and thought Cancelo looked great.

Comfortable win, conserved some energy at times, three points. Finishing still an issue as the elephant man couldn’t have moaned if it was a 5-0 scoreline. Carroll still a thug, Rodri desperately needs a couple of weeks rest and Ake is proving me wrong each time I see him. 12 goals in 14 games conceded with seven being in two games so we are getting better defensively. Need six points next two away games although it won’t be easy. Good to see Bernardo getting better each game. Can see rotation with the front six across next couple of games to keep them relatively fresh. Foden, Ferny and Mahrez to start at Everton and possibly Sergio

Well they're not and they've already dropped 11pts and were also battered 7-2 off Aston Villa they also drew with the mighty Fulham, they'll drop more pts for sure.

We sit 5th 1pt behind rags 5 behind Liverpool who meet in a couple of weeks.

If being 5pts behind is out of a title challenge we may as well give up now.

Not saying we'll win it but I'd never write off a City side with the quality we have especially being only 5pts behind.
