omg that was furstrating watching their defence and midfield. Joelinton was a spanner, maybe he had a bad day but decision makiing was all over the shop.

Bruno I thought was supposed to be their playmaker but he totally let his team down time and again.

Burn - Like having Gary Pallister

Defence - Cant pass at the level required nowadays.

Willock, Issak, Wilson, probably some others, are all well capable but Newcastle need to kick on from this years team.

Bruno has been carrying an ankle injury since the middle of January and he's having to take pain killers to even play for us. I think he deserves massive praise for playing when many others wouldn't have. Joelinton wasn't at his best yesterday and I put that down to Howe for keep moving him around from position to position. Joelinton really needs to be allowed to settle in one position or at least not be moved from game to game.

Burn is shit as a left-back, he has no pace and no positional sense. For the Arsenal first goal he was in the middle of defence where he can hide, that forced Bruno and I think it was Wilson trying to cover at left-back. Bruno would have charged the ball down before Odergaard could shoot, instead, he was covering for the big plank who was marking nobody in the middle.

Burn even turns up on our right wing at times and leaves our left side wide open, Targett isn’t great because he also has no pace but at least he knowns how to play left-back.

Our defence has done so well thins season because the midfield have protected them and Pope has saved them most of the time when we’ve been breached. To have a good defence we’ll have to sign a left-back with pace who can defend and we need to replace Schar in the middle with somebody who can defend and has a good turn of pace. Schar does some good stuff but he can and does drop howlers and some of his distribution is really poor and turns the ball over. His own goal yesterday was pathetic, it was lazy and desperation from him as Pope probably had it covered.

I wasn’t one of those calling for Isak to start with Wilson, I think we’re much more effective when we have one of them fresh coming off the bench to keep the pressure on the opposition. Isak was tidy but I prefer him to do his work centrally where he can get a sniff at goal. Starting him on the left unsettled the way that we’ve been playing lately and I think Howe got that one wrong but he’s got very little wrong this season. Usually I disagree with what he’s done but it works, this time it didn’t. Howe also got the substitutes wrong, I couldn’t work out what he was trying to do and it was as if he was throwing in the towel and protecting some players for the Leeds game.

We’re also weak in midfield when we have one injury and that’s probably one of the reasons why Bruno is still playing while not 100% fit, he’s putting the team before himself and should be applauded for that, not criticised.

Yesterday was a bad result, to be where we are after being so close to relegation for a lot of last season shows how far we’ve come and I’m not going to get too despondent after one result towards the end of a long season when so much has gone right for us.

Hopefully we’ll still finish in the top 4 and qualify for the Champions League, if we don’t, that’s life. We already have the Europa Conference and even that was beyond our wildest dreams at the start of the season.

In the Summer we’ll need to bring in at least 3 quality players, a left-back, a right centre-back and a quality central midfielder. If we can bring in a quality wide forward that can cover both sides then we’ll be capable of improving.

People need to remember, we’re only 19 months plus one day and 3 transfer windows into this project. We’re ahead of schedule and have had a bit of luck this season because Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea have struggled but we’ve still taken advantage of that, so far.

The club is miles away from the club that we were in October 2021 on every level and we’re only going to improve, the problem for us is that so are other clubs, clubs who are currently years ahead of us, clubs who are financially much better off than we are.

Back to the present, we’re one win from the Europa League, two wins from Champions League, bring on Leeds away next weekend.

I love Dan Burns story. Proper story we’d all love to have happened to us. But he shouldnt be any where near the team

I wouldnt worry about this season, or next. Its little steps to where you want to be

Kane would be a good addition for Newcastle.

I would be very surprised if we signed anybody older than 25. Older players who would sell shirts at any other club to help pay fees and wages are wasted while we have Castore as kit suppliers as they struggle to meet current demand.

Great summary of your strengths and weaknesses, but the emboldened bit made me chuckle.
I take it your owners have a couple quid they could find at the back of the settee, just like ours.
But then again, you will be hamstrung by FFP, unlike Chelsea, who have American owners.
I hope you can get into the top 4 above our near neighbours and Livarpool, So that you get into the Champions League.
