I think Howe will pick a side that is too strong for us to cope. He should do because this cup is their best chance of lifting it. And I think those long suffering Geordies need a bit of success, even if it will be at our expense. Probably best if we go this round with the club world cup coming up in December.

True but I'd still expect our EDS to lose to any team that reaches the quarter finals. They already play against weakened league 1 and league 2 sides every season in the papa John's trophy and don't do particularly well (none of them do) so I think it's fair to say we would very likely be knocked out regardless of the opposition.
Just trying to stay optimistic - we've always got a chance if we can get to penalties without Eddie in nets ;-)

I know you're being facetious, but you'll have noticed that Ed's shot stopping has improved significantly over the last two seasons. That save against Forest was genuinely world class. That said, totally confident if Stefan's in nets.

Wasn’t that Pellegrini?

The Club World Cup, in its current format, is far more of a Mickey Mouse competition than the League Cup.

There will be one decent South American team plus a number of, at best, Championship level outfits.

I think that Guardiola will play a fairly strong team, as will Newcastle. The defeatist crap can wait until the draw fir the next round is confirmed.
No Pelligrini did the same v Chelsea I think.

Well let’s compare the two In their current formats.

Prize money for winning:

LC £100,000

WCC £4,100,000

TV audience:

LC 3.5 million

WCC Over 4.0 million in South America alone

Palmerias if they win the Libertadores are about the 60th best team in the World so not a given that City will win in a one off game but yes the standard is lower than the LC in general. This will be the last time it is though and therefore the best chance of winning it.

The WCC is only getting bigger and will rival the CL eventually.

Our third ranked domestic competition won’t last much longer through the increasing demands of newer more lucrative competitions Worldwide. The LC is important to English fans but it’s not got a viewership much beyond these shores (unlike the FA Cup which has real tradition)

On balance I’d say Mickey Mouse might take the money.

I don’t think Pep will play a strong team and I don’t think he should given the circumstances.

Good to see that there's at least one person who sees it the way I do. I suspect, though, that there'll only be two of us. I don't think, though, that there's any format that could make the Club WC a serious competition. People want to win it, because it's never been done by City before. Fair enough. Each to his own.
If I wanted to be provocative, I'd send the EDS out to Saudi, and keep the full first team for the quarter-final of the League Cup. Bit extreme, I know. In any case, there's no danger of that.

I think the team will be:
===========Ortega==========
Lewis==Ajanji===Ake====Gomez
=== Nunes Phillips Grealish===
Bobb===================Doku
==========Haaland===========

I suspect there will be multiple substitutions too.
