I may well be wrong but I can’t see Pep sacking this one off - at least not so obviously anyway - because it’s not his mentality and he won’t want to be sending the wrong messages.

Can see Phillips and Lewis starting this one but will expect Pep to go strong elsewhere on the pitch, with Grealish, Foden and Haaland getting starts. Even if Kova is fit by Wednesday I imagine he will be eased back on again as a sub.

Agree we don’t want to be risking more injuries etc but it’s not in Pep’s ethos to be treating a cup tie like a dead rubber, even with scheduling being so tricky further down the track.

The League Cup QF is scheduled for the same day (+/-1) as our Club World Cup game on 19th December.

And at QF stage we're less likely to be playing opponents that we could hope to beat with a youth team (a repeat of Burton like in the SF would be good).

I'm guessing the club will be playing a youth team throughout, win or lose.
