Not getting into any debate about owners etc but Bruce had a win rate of 28% and net spend of over 90M. We got out of jail last season and despite the fact that Wilson is made of glass he decided we didn’t need another striker as we had Joelinton and Gayle. He did an awful job, this season the tactics have simply been give it to ASM and hope.

Sam wasn’t given dogs abuse from day 1, he was certainly criticised when it became apparent that he’d take us down (we were in a ridiculously false position on the league, if you time look at our results, the times of goals and match reports) we were awful. At one point he had Scott Parker playing as an enforcer and Amdy Faye as play maker ahead of him.

Most fans just want a competitive side and a club that wants to be the best it can be. We were never that under Ashley and lazy journalism together was the media concentrating on the numpties simple plays and adds to the expected narrative.

One last thing, seeing The Rags, Scousers etc losing their shit just in case we do become competitive is hilarious. We’ll be shit for a long time yet. All they’re doing is showing their interest is all about money and protecting their “rightful’” place. Remind me how they got there?

That’s fair comment but the post I was responding to was talking about the financial implications of not being in the CL.
I guess the biggest implication from continually failing to qualify for the CL is being shown by Arsenal. Perpetually lower top half, with an elite manager their only way of breaking the cycle.

Bruce was appointed in July 2019 by Ashley. The vast majority of Newcastle fans had been urging the hated owner to "do the right thing" for once, as they saw it, and negotiate a new contract with Benitez, who was both popular and respected, and who had also done a very good job. When it was announced that Steve Bruce was to succeed Benitez Bruce instantly became a massively unpopular figure. He was certainly not the top flight, internationally renowned figure the fans believed they needed and whom they deserved. His record in management did not mark him out as a bad manager but it didn't mark him out as a good one either, and not one who was likely to take Newcastle (back?!) to the top. The most unpopular owner in PL had managed to appoint an equally unpopular manager and recovery proved impossible for either. Bruce's record at Newcastle was exactly what was feared: in difficult circumstances it was not bad but it was not good, certainly nowhere near what the geordies craved. But he and his owner ploughed on until Ashley realised his long held ambition to sell the club - first put up for sale in 2009! - and this really sealed Bruce's fate, though Sunday's mauling at the hands of Spurs really was the final nail. What the Saudi owners needed above all, and what the fans want, is a sign that the Ashley era is over, and, as Bruce is seen as his creature, Bruce had to go as a sign that a new era has really begun. The owners have to make sure that the PL don't bugger it up for them.

So, right, wrong, Bruce's qualities as a man or the size of his pay off are not the issues. This is the way football works.

Who will they be able to draw in with their project. I'm thinking out loud from a neutral's point of view here and considering we went through this. We struck gold with Mancini. However, we weren't doing that bad with SGE at mid-table, we were unlikely fighting off relegation.

Newcastle currently is, and that might be a negative for the next manager to come in.

But if they have a project that is convincing, they might land a good manager as replacement. I think their realistic option will be Fonseca and Favre, though if they are really ambitious and this is far less likely, either Zidane or Conte if given unlimited money to spend.

Maybe Pirlo is also a possibility, nothing other than being from another barcode.

Just read what he's said about the abuse he and his family have suffered must be terrible as he is a local lad managing his club, he is 60 now with millions in the bank why on earth would you go back to the pressure of football management, time to buy a couple of houses around the world and enjoy yourself with your family.
Unless he gets the rags job then happy days.
I don’t think it went down well he was in charge of the mackems
