This is more of a problem for Newcastle. Big difference between a team who have won the PL 3 times in the past 5 years, play football that is eye candy and have been an ever present in the Champions League for a decade, and a team who have done nothing for decades. The bar codes will be reliant on sponsorship from 'related' parties to achieve stability never mind success. City have come a long way since that situation and we are now amongst the big boys when it comes to sponsorship. Our potentially 'related' sponsorship probably remains partially out of loyalty by the club to those companies who supported us in the early days. Today if a company wants to throw silly money at a club to sponsor anything and they can choose between us and the dippers, rags, chavs etc the only reason they would go to them is the Asian market but historically that has not been mega sponsorship deals. If you want your companies name associated with a successful team who get results by football that is entertaining rather than defense based at present there is no better deal than City
