Newcastle Vs City C1C Post Match Thread

MP said "...It's important for the squad to have minutes to play, those who are not playing in the Premier League and Champions League..."

Just a thought but if one of his objectives was to give squad players "minutes to play" then dragging a cup tie until extra time before finishing it off is a way of doing that...

Poor performance tonight, but job done and we're through to the quarter finals. It was by no means an easy task, but we laboured for long spells and were perhaps fortunate to be level at half time. Not many of the peripheral players did enough to suggest they merit a place in the starting line up. Fair play to them for showing enough resilience to win the tie though.

There was a notable improvement when Silva came on, and Milner moved to the middle. He should be third choice centre mid for me, behind Yaya and Fernandinho but ahead of Garcia and Rodwell.

Just got into Chez Jots.

Crap performance and Richards seems like he's had a recent lobotomy. Tons of whining Geordies on the bus home, including one particular special snowflake of about fifteen who insisted that Newcastle's attendances during their years in the lower divisions embarrassed our own. Clueless, pasty-eating little ****.

Only saw the game from the 37 minute mark and we were the better team from that point. The big problem with that side was not that the players are not good ones but they are not the most creative bunch. Unfortunately the manager was denied the opportunity to use two of his substitutions tactically; had he been able to make three tactical substitutions, the game might have been won in normal time. Silva made a real difference when he came on and was head and shoulders the best player on the park, with a hand in two well crafted goals. Kudos to Dzeko and Milner for thier excellent assists though.

Milner did do a good job in the centre tonight.

Bang on as usual ob1. We couldn't get the passing going because the entire back four couldn't build anything, because they are poor on the ball, and we were passing it along the back line or hoofing it. But newcastle didn't create much and we grew into the game steadily and always looked the more likely to win it from halftime on. Once the silva sub was made we took total control.

A very professional performance from a team without its spine.
Blue tinted specs on there DD, "Newcastle didn't create much" - they could have been three up at half time. " A very professional performance" - not really we could easily have lost it, other than that your analysis is spot on.

Maybe 'very professional' was pushing it. We were certainly poor first half. But I felt the players dug in and got the job done. If Newcastle had scored in the first half I still feel we'd have put silva on and won the game.

What a player he is. He was like a man amongst boys on that pitch.

Just a little well done to the blues who were up here tonight, great support.

Re: Newcastle Vs City C1C Post Match Thread

Overall it's good to see us winning an ugly game, even if we took it to extra time.

Re: Newcastle Vs City C1C Post Match Thread

Finally got back! First 99 mins were very ugly to watch but i thought we were great in extra time. Was good to see so many city fans make the journey.

Re: Newcastle Vs City C1C Post Match Thread

Just arrived home from Newcastle after the most boring 90 minutes I can remember for a long time!! The extra time brought out the goal scorers but they could have done with doing that 10 minutes earlier so that we got home earlier!! :-)

But we won so there we go, Milner, Lescott and Micah did well. Then Silva and Zaba came on and gave us the extra fizz we needed.

Bring 'em on!

By the way, were there any Newcastle fans in that ground because all I could hear were City songs and all I could see were loads of empty seats in the Newcastle end!!??

Re: Newcastle Vs City C1C Post Match Thread

3 hour drive home, just got in. Was happy with the win but thought we really struggled with both Rodwell and Garcia on the pitch. Rodwell especially was very poor and we looked miles better when Milner moved to the centre.

David Silva is a absolute joy to watch! Bring on Leicester.
