Next Captain

Vieira captain, come off it he should not even be at the club. Never mind on the pitch. We hear that we are going to be a top 4 team. What with Vieira who is past it & the likes of SWP who could not make it at CFC. Give Kompany the armband. May not have played to well today. But 9 times out of 10 you can back him to perform.

its not just performing, we need someone to motivate and change the game himself. vieira came on and we looked alot more organised. he made good passes and he almost scored. if any defender sould be captain its lescott. kompany was well away from jones today for his goal and stopped defending vs lampard for his goal. hes young hell make mistakes though, Lescott has been looking far more consistent.

i thought kompany had a good game personally, he was caught out of position for the goal , but imo richards shud b defending the cross better, and it was a great finish from jones

but there was a few times kompany bailed us out, he kept darren bent quiet, and lescott is showing the form he did at everton, no one can argue he isnt overpriced, but hes starting to look like the player we need

I do wonder at times if we are all watching the same game. Kompany looked all at sea for most of the first half and never seemed to fully recover from his unusual nervousness. He made one excellent takcle on bent but that was only made possible because bent refuses to strike it with his left peg, so he had to drag it back. His passing and distribution from the back was awful at best but to be fair yesterday it seemed like the entire back line hadn't passed a ball amongst each other in years, too long or short for nearly 45 mins. Thankfully after that the ball was never really in our half for prolonged periods.

Yeah you r right about yesterday but you dont base the captaincy on just one game do you?

I agree that the defence didn't look particularly composed in that first half but that said, we did restrict them to two headers inside the box and a few shots from outside the box from what I remember, so I didn't think the defending was that bad. I thought we were dire going forward in the first half but didn't feel unduly worried that they were going to score more goals.

Only one person who should be captaon Nidgel De Jong gives his all every game

we need a captain who can motivate players when they arent playing well enough by leading with example. and changing the game himself when needed. im not sure we have one in the club.

I don't want to undermine our current captain, but from the majority of the posts on here (And my own opinion), Kolo will not in the first choice back 4.

This means he can't really be the captain, so who will take on the mantel of captain?

I'd say Kompany (As i did at the beginning of this season). He has been with us for 2 season, so is not a new comer. He has, for me, been one of our top performers, and i haven't seen him have a really bad game, showing his consistency.

He also seems to be a great professional, and haven't heard of him talking in the press.

I love Kompany, and hope he stays with us for the rest of his career. To have him captain for a long time would be the right choice.

Vice would be Barry, as he is always in the team, and is a consummate pro.

Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong are currently my two fave players. Both are natural leaders though I favour Nigel as mentioned on the Van der Wiel thread. VK has had to spend time covering Kolo Toure and the LB's arse. Therefore and on his consistancy, NDJ gets my vote all day long.

Definitely Vinnie.

He's the one. This lad is awesome. Worth his wieght in gold!

Barry vice or even Shay.

Shit - forgot about our bulldog in midfield. NDJ is a quality choice as well.

NDJ or Vinnie but definitely captain and vice between the two of them.

At least I am nice and decisive!

Vinnie is a bit quiet at times!
Dejong for me may not be a regular starter next season
So i would go for Adebayor, lol

Have to be vinnie really as cant think of anyone else except Barry

I know what you mean - if we bring in a midfielder, Bobby will certainly want to play him so that must be at the sacrifice of Barry or NDJ. We've already seen NDJ sit out a couple this year so you could be right and he will be more of a squad player and feature more prominantly away from home in those harder games when we need a strong 5 manner across the centre of the park.
