Next seasons home shirt (allegedly)

I care about the club's identity mate, we're a part of that, but so is the kit.

No other major European club has their colours fucked about with the way we do, and to neutrals that must tell its own story.

You know what, Roma, France, England and Portugal have all had their kits fucked around with by Nike this season.

All of them have silly novelty sleeves, silly novelty shorts and silly novelty socks. All so that Nike get the maximum possible exposure.

I was expecting Nike to do exactly the same to us this year and follow the same template, so it's not come as that big a shock or disappointment.

If it was a one off, I could live with it.

The wider issue is that this has been going on for alternate seasons for the last 7 or 8 years for us.

Blue shorts one year, white the next, white socks one year, blue the next, monochrome badge one year, full colour the next, it's becoming a fucking joke.

The last time we had the same core colours for the kit in consecutive seasons was 2007 - 2008 when we had sky blue shirts, white shorts, sky blue socks for 2 seasons running.

So this idea that we have to change our core colours every single season because it helps drive sales is absolute bollocks. How do they know? We've not had the same colours two seasons on the bounce since the takeover! They're guessing.

The crux of it for me is no grown man is buying the shorts. At least I hope there isn't any full kit wankers knocking about. Maybe they sell a few thousand shorts to grown men but it will be a minimal amount.

The only possible explanation for changing the short colour is that they think they will sell more shorts if they change the colour every alternate season. Kids won't want the wrong colour shorts so they'll ask for new ones.

What I don't understand is why don't The Shite have this problem? Or Madrid, Chelsea, whoever? They keep the exact same colour every year, but I'm sure they still sell far more units of shorts than us.

Kids want the new ones no matter what. Even if our shorts stayed white every season, kids will still want the new ones. Even if the trim is slightly different or whatever, most kids in the modern world if they're in to football kits will know the difference and want the new ones for birthdays or xmas or whatever.

But the bigger issue which the club is overlooking is about identity. Kids from Asia, the US and around the world who we are trying to convince to support City, they are very wary or branding and exposure. Probably more than adults are when it comes to football kits.

Us changing our core colours every season is weakening our brand, weakening our identity. It will actually be having a detrimental affect on kid's perception of us.

If McDonalds had the golden arches one year, blue arches the next, then golden again, then purple arches the year after, kids wouldn't identify with the brand as immediately. It would take more time, and they'd probably not enjoy the changes. They like consistency, it makes it easier for them to recognise and identify with straight away.

With The Shite, Madrid, Chelsea etc, kids know what they are getting every single time, they can identify with it. With us, they don't know what the hell our colours are from one season to the next, there's no consistency, there's nothing to identify with.

One single season to mark the end of an era at Highbury?

Not really disproving my point mate. You knew who the kit belonged to.

We have a mish mash every single fucking year, there's no continuity. We have to demand that our identity is respected, because the clowns at Nike think it's interchangeable, that they can decide what it is.

Seems some on here would only kick up a stink if we did a Cardiff and turned out in red. No doubt there'd be a few whoppers saying that it wouldn't matter if we won the league in it.

Where do you stand on immigration?? And whoppers?? Really......

At least we can guarantee one thing, some jabroni journalist will be creating a list of worst strips of the season solely to have City #1. It's also quite interesting how I've perceived it, as a training top, I think it's alright but as a strip I'm negative towards it. I think the away strip will end up being nice though

Weirdly enough, this just came up as an advert for me. Umbro training top almost identical to next seasons kit.

Post of the thread my friend.

Zing, nailed it mate.

No continuity, at all. And that's the worst thing about it, wouldn't be such an issue if it was a rare exception, but it's vast changes every single year.

It undermines our identity, and for language the suits care about, actually harms the 'brand' and the brand recognition.

We have an identity and we should demand that it's respected.

It's that time of year again when the fashionistas are out in full force.

For me, identity is important and at a time where our identity and traditions are called into question, I feel we need to need to make sure our uniform respects the history of the club.

The shirt should be all sky blue, the shorts should be white and if you want to play about a bit then do it with the socks. I've no issue with the socks changing between sky blue, white and navy each year.

I know we've worn sky blue shorts before but they've never been popular and the vast majority of fans prefer them to be white.

It's extremely disappointed that we're bringing in a new, more traditional badge and yet the new home kit will be one of the most removed from our traditional wear that we've ever had.

The club did a great job respecting the new badge but they're not doing a great job with the home kits. That's 2 out of 4 that just haven't been 'Manchester City' to me.

Someone at the club needs to have more control over the style of the kits.

Anyone who wouldn't mind us turning out in red if we were successful doing it would be a whopper, yes.

They'd also be a complete sell out with no principles.

Not sure why you're trying to drag the thread off topic now anyway. Isn't trolling against the CoC mate?
