Neymar

I think UEFA need to look into the legality of these very high buyout clauses then if they expect players to fund their moves. It seems like an impossible situation and imo a breach of rights. You either lower the clauses to a realistic sum or you allow clubs to fund moves.

It's well dodgy
All Spanish contracts have to have a release clause in them and I assume the figure is agreed by the club, the player and his people when he signs that contract. Transfers can happen at any fee the clubs agree on but if a player decides to buy out his own contract then it's at the fee set in the contract, nothing dodgy about it. Legally the player has to pay it with his own money and if that's given to him by another club that's their business but It was , not sure if it still is, seen as income and taxed.

Yes FIFA will rule on the eventual validity of the transfer but couldn't UEFA conceivably see a direct payment from Qatar to Neymar as a related party transaction in FFP terms which in turn could lead to PSG breaching FFP?

But FFP has nothing to do with the transfer, only will be relevant for UEFA comps if they found that the rule had been broken by PSG at some point. So to me neither UEFA nor FFP have anything to do with this transfer.

£198m for Neymar!

To put that into context, that's a week's stay for a family of five at Center Parcs with 3 kids who want to do everything

So its ok Madrid and United to spend crazy money but not the rest.

Pretty much sums up why FFP is a complete joke.

A club owned by one of the richest families in the world is scrutinised for spending £200m on a player they could afford 500 times over.

However a club in £500m debt can still go out and spend a further £150m plus whoever else they buy this summer.

Ridiculous how much the 'traditional elite' are protected.

Thanks for the insight.
It makes you think how many time's has a player in Spain bought the buyout clause, then end up at Real or Barca. If this has happened before in Spain, involving the two big clubs then why so much hassle?.

Just to piss on FFP, hope they sign Neymar, then sell someone like Cavani to a 'Qatari team' for £200m then loan him back to PSG. That would be sweet.

Probably also worth noting that - and I could be wrong but don't think I am - this extends to all Spanish employment contracts (not just football).

Where Ducker's article on Utd's £4-500m debt when you need him?

La Liga has no legal right or authority to block a player's transfer. They are making themselves look like a small league by these shananigans

La Liga and Barcelona better tread lightly as they are just about to make Neymar's contract null and void which means he'll get to keep his £198 million fee. Now that would be piss funny.

You simple can't go against a contract especially for a fantasy rule which hasn't been broken by any set measures (sure they might break them but that will be in next years accounts not this years and whose to say they won't pass them anyway, which they will to be honest).

The quote that sums up FFP.

It was always about keeping the status quo at the top and protecting the brands.

They didn't give a shit that United could spend £30 million on a teenager 12 years ago or £30 million on a CB.

Just like they don't care about Madrid and Barcelona spending £80+ million on players.

What they have always cared about is making sure other clubs cannot challenge those sides at the top table.

This deal is about more than money. It's about an "inferior" club from and "inferior" league taking one of Barcelona's prized assets and they can do nothing about it.

The top table of football has truly shifted and it's about time.
They've had it there own way for far too long and they're finding, like all dictators eventually do, that once a revolution gathers momentum it is almost impossible to quell.
This is what is happening here. All we are short of is a few heads on pikes to complete the picture. The first one will be Barca when the Neymar transfer goes through and the next will be Real if we manage to sign Mbappe from under their noses.

I do not know if it has happened before but it would be unusual
