Why don't the receiving just run away from the ball when the opposition try an onside kick? Why contest it, knowing that if your player touches it and then the opponents recover the ball they lose possession? Is there any that a receiving team can lose possession of the ball if one of their players doesn't touch it?
???

If they all ran away from it then the kicking team would be uncontested and easily recover it?

It doesn't have to be touched by the other team before the kicking team can recover; like a punt. It just has to go at least 10 yards before the kicking team can contest it.

But with a punt, when the ball is kicked say inside the 10, when the receiving player runs away from the ball hoping for a favourable bounce, a player from the kicking team can collect the ball but the ball is dead and the possession handed back to the receiving team at the point the opponent collected the ball? Is that any different to an onside kick? If the kicking team collect it uncontested they can't do anything with the ball, can they? I might be seriously confused on this

Edit: Sorry I was confused by your wording of 'like a punt'. I get it now, kick offs are legal once the ball has travelled 10 yards and can be contested by the kicking team. This is the opposite of a punt, and why I was initially confused by the rule. Apologies

My understanding of the rules is based on a ps2 game I loved playing years ago...BUT the kicking team can collect an uncontested ball if it goes at least 10 yards, however, they cannot do anything once they collect it. They start first down from the spot they collected it.

I could be completely wrong.

Yeah, sorry could have worded that part better.

A kick off can be recovered by either team once it has traveled at least 10 yards.

A kick from scrimmage can be downed by the kicking team but they can't gain possession unless the other team has touched the ball in some way.

With regards to an onside kick/kick off, the ball is deemed a dead ball when and where the kicking team recover it and can't be advanced.

The NFL has found that 11 of 12 of the New England Patriots game balls were inflated significantly less than the NFL requires

Those twats will do anything they can to get the upper hand, lead by king twat Bill Bellichik. Its the reason I will be hoping Seattle pull their tripe out a week on Sunday and smash them.

Or kick them out and let the Colts go to the Superbowl?

I imagine if they are indeed found guilty then it will only be (yet another) loss of draft picks.
