N'Golo Kante

Hopefully Pep signs him to play the role Vidal plays for Bayern.

Unbelievable engine, pressing machine and a good passer. That type of player in a midfield trio with two players who are brilliant technically (Weigl & Pogba) is the dream.
Gundogan and Pogba. And we have that 3 player in Dihno. That said, if you really want a player like that, Iddrissa Gueye is the better buy.

Is there any player in Europe that you're not an expert on?

I'm not an expert on any player in Europe. I'm not familiar with over 95% of the players in Europe. But sure, I have an opinion on about 5 percent of players in Europe. Just like anyone who watches football generally.
City predominantly purchases players in that 5%. So when we got Savic, Nastacic and Dihno you wouldn't find me opining on any of those threads, as I hadn't seen much of all 3.

But Kante, yeah I've seen him and have an opinion on him. You don't?

We've got our Kante in Fernandinho unless you're looking for the Younger option. I look at Dinho and feel he has many years left in him.

Not really. Not seen enough of him to form an opinion.

I've come to realize that opinions are just that, opinions. I bet you've seen Yaya, Silva Aguero, and DeBryune at least as much as the average City fan yet your opinion on each player differs considerably to that of probably a quarter or more of the fans who have seen them as much.

I find my opinion on most City players differ greatly from those of others I chat with here or watch the games with. So neither mine nor theirs is gospel. I've seen Kante at enough times . And even if i hadnt, what I'd lack will be the ability to determine how consistently he exhibits his footballing traits. This though wouldnt stop me from seeing those traits.

He is pretty easy player to describe I believe: Tremendous energy, intense tackler, great pesterer, average ball control, average passing and vision, even though he makes the odd great pass, good speed, good running with the ball albeit looks awkward doing it, average to poor passing technique, limited passing tree. Average to poor ariely. Poor shootng technique, Great tactical awareness. Will be great for a counterattacking team, and average on a possession team.

But that's just my opinion

My point was more general, wasn't really on Kante.

Further, my original post was directed more to your Idrissa Gueye comment. Not really a dig just that you seem very knoweldgable on most players we're linked with. Impressive.

Oh! Now I feel stupid :)

I've watched this guy play at least 15 times and you've summed him up almost perfectly. I'd say he's average in the air and wins balls his height says he shouldn't because he's so damn strong and doesn't get budged. The first three things you mentioned are by far the top attributes I'd want in a DM and for those three he's been practically a 10/10. I'd absolutely love this signing but I'd be worried just a touch because the squad he is on now is literally perfect for his skill set (like you mentioned we don't know how great he'd be on a possession team).

**also I rate pace highly and that's near a 10/10 for a cdm as well.

The guy is a legend already.
Apparently when he signed for Leicester he refused to buy a car; said he could run anywhere he needed to in town!

Kante is incredible, wouldn't be surprised if Pep is interested because of how well he presses and how often he wins the ball. Playing behind Gundogan and Koke would be a dream midfield three.

A Pep interest would shock me.

Dax help me here. What's it with this infatuation for a middle 3 on bluemoon? I really do not think a middle 3 would be efficient in the EPL. I'd be happier with a middle pair that can do the business and an insane front 4 that can score for fun and tear teams apart. Would like to hear your views on this.

I think the middle 3 idea is a function of who our next manager is going to be. Pep at both Barca and Bayern has had his default system starting with 3 in the middle. So I think that plays a role. Second, strikers ogtenbarent the best possession footballers, so the more of them on the field the fewer intricate passers you have. True their are exceptions like Messi, Suarez, Benzema, and Zlatan who are strikers with great intricate passing ability. But that's not the norm.

Also having more strikers will help your attack if you are creating chances, if you are not, you simply have 2 players wasted. Most teams would rather have one.

Personally, I want a player like DeBryune, Mueller, Dybala or Reus playing as the 10. Ie a goalscoring attacking midfielder supporting the main striker. Yet playing a Central part in the linkup in midfield.

The funny thing is even when teams play 2 strikers, one of them end up dropping to play that role, and they often aren't that good at it.

An example was Aguero dropping off on Saturday to play the DeBryune role. He simply doesn't have the vision or urgency to get it to the striker that a natural midfielder has. When you are up against bus packers, 2 lethst strikers are great, but when up against any pressure based team, you are better off with 3 natural ball passers.

At least that's what I fancy. Lots of experienced coaches disagree :)

I agree. Our no.10 has to be able to score and make killer balls to the forward or to the wing, which De Bruyne can do well. We already have the successor to him as well in Brahim ;-). He would make an amazing no.10 in his later years. Kid can do everything.
