NHS being recommended 1% pay rise

Wrong question. Should be asking what the government that can’t afford more than 1% for health workers but found this money has done wrong.
they all make me piss mate

i didn't have to do anything different in my job from jan 1st
up till june.when managers via the government starting getting slightly serious concerning PPE
we could sit in our rest room having our breaks 10 abreast, others standing,no problem
masks? no problem till June 2020,breathe on who you like
arrows in the aisles,no problem, everyone walk where you want till circa june 2020,dont bother with that 2metres crap

seat and benches within the hospital, sit where you like ,however many you like !
then stickers stating leave a gap

all brought in by the chief executive who'd been " working " from home like the rest of them.

It wasn't through a competitive tender. The article features in The Times, not The Morning Star.

Some people got stinking rich off the back of the government's incompetent approach to procurement. Some of the stuff bought has turned out to be unusable- it is fair to question their motivations for granting contracts for cronies (Tory friends and donors).
Its a framework, you don't have to tender for those, as you have already submitted your rates to get on the framework. Frameworks are standard contract practice throughout industry, local government and government. Look it up.

There have certainly been some very dodgy contracts awarded by this government during this covid crisis, but this does not appear to be one of them. This appears to be just a journalist with an agenda stirring things up.

Just because a company made some profit out of a contract does not mean that firstly they should not have done so. Companies exist to make money and if they didn't someone else would have that is how things work. And secondly you seem to be suggesting that their profit would pay for a decent increase across the NHS? How do you know this, personally i think that is unlikely. IMO people appear to be mixing up two things here for political reasons.

And finally FWIW before you accuse me of being a right wing loon etc etc I believe the NHS staff should get a decent pay rise at lease as much as the SNP are giving the staff north of the border, I would add it on to the national debt along with eh countless other billions this crisis has cost us.

Just because a company made profit, no. The fact the government have wasted money on bad procurement is fairly obvious, whether it was corrupt we’ll maybe find out one day.
You are correct though whatever money has been wasted previously it’s no excuse for offering 1% and money should be found to offer a decent pay rise. For what its worth I think the pressure will tell and the money will be found miraculously.

Two completely separate issues.

There was a procurement framework and the government needed vast amounts of PPE at very short notice - it’s pretty inevitable that the businesses who supply it would make an awful lot of money. It doesn’t make it corrupt or unethical.

Unless we want to have state-run PPE factories then the government have to procure it from businesses - I really don’t see where the story is here.

i hope so.

Pitched for and got a contract for PPE which underwent no vfm tests then as it all comes out they are openly showing off their new found wealth and possessions
not sure what we’re basing them showing off on other than a newspaper lifting a photo from somewhere and them buying a big house -which people with lots of money tend to do.

It was all over the media when that story broke - even the Great Train Robbers knew it was probably better to lie low and not be ostentatious straight away.

Being all over the media isn’t showing off as I doubt there’s much they can do about it. And they shouldn’t not spend their own money for fear of offending strangers.
