Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

Has an incredible ability to play well but still cost us goals. He will play very well for 89 minutes but still cost us a game.So it's not his ability as much as concentration, which can be improved. He's still on an upward curve from the rock bottom that was Chelsea.

Blaming him for the first goal is a bit unfair, Kolarov was the right side of Alli, and just got done by a brilliant cross.

You obviously made your mind up on him from his previous then, because he's been fucking garbage overall from his arrival.

Him and Kolarov actually had good games today. Sometimes you have to look at the play before it arrives in the box to see where the actual problem lies, in today's (and most games) case it's left back.

Even Stuart Pearce was complimentary of both Otamendi & Kolarov today, who's opinion as a former England player I rate more highly than yours.

Using today as a stick to beat him with is ridiculous. Focus on our underperforming 'goal scorers' first.

Our "goal scorers" got us a 2-0 lead. Our defenders let them score with their only 2 shots on target in the whole game. Can't blame the attackers for this one.

Really? So all of the chances they missed are irrelevant because of the goals we conceded? Ok.

To put it into perspective, Sterling missed a glorious chance to make it 3-1. Two minutes later they equalise. Had he put that away we'd have practically been home and dry.

We also only scored because we had two open nets from absolute howlers.

Irregardless, we were 2 to the good and the defence failed to do it's job yet again. The sad thing is, at 2-0 I fully expected us to throw it away.

Kolarov and Otamendi we're ok in general as defenders... but Kolorov as a full back (when Stones came on) was useless as usual and Otamendi passing into midfield was wasteful more often than is acceptable. The sooner both are replaced with better the better.

Stones too is useless though... far worse than Otemendi or Kolorov. We need to swallow some pride and ditch him somehow if you ask me. What were we thinking?

I was talking to a rag yesterday who said he is exactly like Ferdinand used
to be when he signed for them. He came through it due to Ferguson giving him a bollocking all game and the players around him having the experience to bring him through. I would give Stones more time but Otamendi is not a leader and not a player to bring another player on. I can't see him being part of Peps long term plans but I can see Stones being part of it. He has been very erratic though I agree with that.

I find that hard to believe that Ferdinand look as bad and I find it harder still to imagine Stone ever learning to be decent as a defender and as a forward thinking player. It's cruel to say but he is a fairytale ... and it'd be a fantasy trying to develop him ... costing us opportunities over and over imo. I'd send him on loan and if he is really good we can see it there before playing him again.

It's the same with Bravo. Sometimes you gamble and lose and the best thing is to walk away before you suffer even more.

Totally agree on Bravo. Stones needs to up his game sharpish though I agree. As for Otamendi I think he is a stop gap as he wasn't quite as bad as Mangala.

Kompany needs bringing in next week. If he breaks down then that's it for him but we need to do sonething as we have conceded 6 goals from 6 shots on target in 2 games.

I think it was more along the lines of "it's the only way we had any chance of getting our money out of Valencia".
